Outdoor Fun in Universal Transitional Kindergarten!
Funded Mar 25, 2025My students were so excited to open the big boxes containing their new outdoor equipment! They couldn't wait for our afternoon outdoor time! We opened the boxes and discussed the safety rules for using the new equipment and then we tried out each item.
The tunnel was a big hit! The children took turns going through it one at a time and loved crawling through it. It is sturdy, and long enough to make it exciting as they reach the "dark" middle of the tunnel. Next we tried out the hula hoops. The children loved trying to keep them moving and they also tried rolling the hoops to each other.
We then used the catch cups. Those were a big hit! I was surprised that the children could catch the balls and they we too! They set up the balance beams and walked across them, maintaining their balance. It is wonderful to see them so excited to use our new equipment. Thank you for helping this a reality!”

Funded Mar 7, 2024My students were so excited when they saw the writing cart assembled and as I introduced the writing materials their excitement grew. They were especially excited to use the new markers! I added materials that I already had, but were not as easily accessible as they are in the movable writing cart.
The students were especially excited to create letters using stencils, markers and stickers. They enjoyed using the writing prompts and word books to find words they wanted to know how to spell. The writing center is open when the students first arrive in the morning and is part of our language arts time.
Thank you for giving my students the gift of writing!”

Teamwork: Trains and Tracks!
Funded Feb 20, 2024My students began using trains and tracks that had been donated to our class. They all wanted to join in and play, and now thanks to you, we have enough trains and tracks for our class of 20 active TK students! When I opened the box with the materials they were thrilled! So of course we had extended time to play with the new materials.
The children worked together to build gigantic train tracks that took up our entire 9 x 12 carpet area. They collaborated, looked at the box the materials came in to get ideas, and worked together to build. They shared and took turns. Everyone had at least one train to move on the tracks, across the bridges and through the tunnels.
We are enjoying these materials every day during our morning time and often during other times in our day. They are a favorite activity.
Our next project is a portable writing area. Many of the children are expressing an interest in writing so creating a writing center that can be moved to various classroom areas is my next priority. Thank you so much for your support.”

Let's Get Messy in Universal Transitional Kindergarten!
Funded Nov 8, 2023We were thrilled to raise enough to get our Cascade Water Table! The children have enjoyed using it to float alphabet ducks and had a lot of fun playing in the water. It has made learning letter recognition so much fun and I have a lot of ideas for future fun. It is so important for the children to get outdoors and play. Incorporating learning centers on our playground has really brought learning to life. The children also have enjoyed using stone food items in our mud kitchen. They enjoy "cooking" in the mud kitchen and the stone foods make it seem more realistic.
The loose parts have provided creative learning opportunities for the children and there are never-ending creations being made each day in our classroom. The children have fun pretending that the parts are forests, castles, mushrooms and people. These open-ended creative experiences and so very important in transitional kindergarten.
Thank you for supporting my students learning through play and have fun while they do it!”

Funded Nov 19, 2022My students were so excited when the boxes of Magna-Tiles arrived! They are familiar with the tiles and some have these sets at home, but working together with their classmates brought so much joyful collaboration. We opened the boxes up and put the pieces in the storage containers, but immediately we opened up the containers and took out the original sets of Magna-Tiles we had, to allow for free exploration with all the new materials.
The children had so much fun and their language exploded during this collaborative time. Since that first day, we have had the tiles out as a learning centers activity. It is a popular center for the children. Now, we have enough tiles for the class to build and play together.”

Purposeful Dramatic Play
Funded Aug 9, 2022The children had a wonderful time in their "doctor's office!" We used all of the great materials and read the books explaining the various roles of medical workers. They role-played, treated their patients and learned a lot about body parts. They were so excited to have the variety of materials provided by the grant.
The dramatic play area has now been transformed into a "Home Sweet Home" complete with a fully stocked kitchen, highchair for the babies and all that is needed to role-play family members. This is our next language arts unit, and they can't wait to get started!
Thank you so much for your contribution and as the year moves forward, we will have so much fun with each transformation of our dramatic play area.”

Funded Aug 27, 2021It was so wonderful to see my students' eyes light up when they saw the boxes of Magna Tiles! They got right to work creating castles, buildings, forts and more. The best part was watching them work together to collaborate and of course the smiles were priceless.
I was excited to get the new vacuum cleaner and to be able to provide my students with a clean classroom. The alcohol wipes are great for sanitizing in the classroom and soon we will be starting our computer mini-lab station so I will be able to clean the computers between users.
I am so grateful for the support!”

Welcome to School!
Funded Mar 31, 2021Last week a group of my students came back to school in person. We welcomed them with their own desk, labeled with their name and they were so proud to have a dedicated space to work in class. It is not easy to stay 6 feet apart when you are 5 years old, by my students loved their special desks. Also sitting on their desks were new pencil boxes filled with the supplies they will need to complete work in class. They are learning to keep their things organized!
The children are looking forward to reading with their new pointer fingers too! All of the new and special things are making the transition to in person learning fun.”

Funded Dec 1, 2020With distance learning continuing indefinitely, my students will be so thrilled to receive these engaging, new learning materials in January. Keeping my young learners excited to continue to learn with fun activities is so important. These materials are bright, colorful and full of wonderful learning experiences.
As we approach Winter Break, I have told my students to expect a big surprise when they return. I have made arrangements to have a contact-free pick up and cant wait to get started with a new and more advanced curriculum. My young writers will create their very own story books, which they will treasure for years to come.”

Funded Oct 22, 2020I was so excited to receive the sight word materials! I know that my students will be thrilled to get their book bag containing both fiction and non-fiction sight word readers. As they work in their sight word journals, they will build a vocabulary of sight words to accompany words they are able to sound out. They will become readers!
The gift of reading is the best gift that I, as a teacher, can give to my students. As they begin to read, the world of information will open for them. Additionally, the fun journals will allow them to use their dot markers (from another Donors Choose project) to have creative fun while learning their sight words.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity. It means so much to me and to my students!”

Ms. Weisberg
