I have a points-based system in my classroom to reward positive classroom participation, as well as maintaining a classroom job (jobs are optional and they must apply for them). I give them weekly "paychecks" based on the points they earn for both. I encourage students to put their checks in the "bank" and save for something bigger than a small snack. Many students are saving!!! However, I have to build my range of rewards and it can get expensive. I selected some items from Amazon like cars and key chains that I know they will like, but I am also happy to go out and get items myself with donated money. Thank you so much for considering helping out with this project! By using this extrinsic reward system, I want students to experience recognition for their hard work. Sometimes students do not find joy in learning; despite this, with an extrinsic reward system, they can be rewarded for a job well done. In addition, through the classroom job path, they can practice their skills of responsibility and consistency. There are days when students struggle with lessons and focus, but they feel able to do their classroom jobs. This way, there are more options for positive recognition and success each day/week.
