While I am with a small guided reading or math group, my other students need to be engaged in meaningful activities which will help them increase their math, literacy and technology skills. I have set up centers in my classroom which emphasize numeracy skills, fluency, word work, writing, and vocabulary, but our technology is limited, so only a few students are able to utilize the online programs that are available. Most children enjoy learning while using technology, so I've selected products which will allow more of my students to utilize computer skills while learning important curriculum objectives. By donating to this project, students will be able to access Chromebooks during this time, allowing them to work independently on engaging, research based programs. The children will be able to build their fluency and comprehension with websites such as Newsela and Zearn. When the children finish reading a book, they will be able to take Reading Counts tests using the technology. After working on a specific math standard during guided math, I will assign lessons on ixl.com so they can practice the skills. This program is easily managed by the teacher so I could assign lessons based on students' weaknesses, thus differentiating my instruction to meet their individual needs. During social studies and science, I will use the Chromebooks for students to research and produce products which showcase their learning. The Chromebooks will be used daily in most subject areas, resulting in higher student involvement and achievement. My goal is for every student to be engaged and for every minute to count, whether they are in a teacher led group or working independently.
