  • The Ron Clark Academy

    Funded Feb 26, 2015

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. This project was different from others, since it had a direct impact on the teacher instead of the students. As an educator I appreciated the opportunity to attend a Professional Development session at The Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. I was truly inspired by the energy of the teachers and the levels of engagement displayed by the students. I have already incorporated many of the tools learned from that PD into my classroom and my students have responded well!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milam

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 4 other donors.
  • iPads For Our Class Pad

    Funded Feb 1, 2015

Thank you so much for donating to our iPad Mini Project! The students have really enjoyed using the iPad Mini in the classroom! We are hoping to eventually obtain a class set, so all students can have their hands on technology. We are excited to use the iPad to help our students become 21st Century Learners and become ready for the current job market. Students access the iPad Mini throughout the day to play learning games that are based on their own levels. Soon, students will use the iPad Mini to create and publish pieces of writing. Students will also be using it to video record each other during a math project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milam

  • Second Grade Reading Rug

    Funded Aug 25, 2014

Thank you so much for your generosity and donation to our recent Donors Choose project. It was an amazing day when our class carpet was delivered! We have used it multiple times a day, every day since! The students are incredibly grateful to have a place to collaborate and communicate as a classroom, but also with their peers.

This project has helped my students work on their collaboration skills and partnerships within the classroom. It has also helped students to create a classroom community and establish great friendships. I believe that these life lessons are equally as important as academic lessons and our class thanks you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milam

  • Books, Books, Galore!

    Funded Aug 26, 2013

Thank you so much for donating to our Big Books project! The students have really enjoyed using the Big Books in class. We have shared many of the stories in a whole group and they books are large enough to allow the entire class an opportunity to see what's happening in the story. Students are becoming more interested in what is happening in the story and are becoming great readers, all thanks to your generosity. My students will continue to use the Big Books throughout the year to help enhance their reading skills.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milam

  • We're Coming Alive Thanks to Daily Five!

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Thank you for taking the time to donate to our Donors Choose project! From your generous donations we were able to receive five portable CD players, ten sets of headphones and two hanging-book shelves! The students are no longer being distracted by the sound of other students listening to the Nooks and can focus on listening and comprehension skills using their own stories. We are able to stay more organized through the use of our new book shelves as well! We are all very gratefull that you picked us to donate to!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milam

  • Little iPods for Little Fingers!

    Funded Sep 10, 2012

Thank you so much for taking the time to donate to our project! The ipods have had a huge impact in our classroom! We use them daily during Daily Five literacy time to enhance the students learning experience. Students use them to learn sight words, writing formation, letter recognition, and letter sounds! Students can also use them to listen to stories and record themselves reading! These have been an amazing asset to have in our classroom and your generosity has helped us to reach our goals this year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milam

  • Little Kindergartners Need an ELMO for Big Ideas!

    Funded Mar 14, 2012

Thank you so much for your generosity towards our ELMO Document Reader project! It is wonderful to know that there are so many caring people in the world that can continue to impact the education of our little ones.

We use the ELMO in our classroom daily and it has been a great asset to have! I have used it to help show the pictures of a book to the entire class. The students have used it to show their peers how to solve a math problem and the steps they took. We will continue to use the ELMO to share our thoughts and ideas with the entire classroom.

This ELMO will also be used for many years and you should be proud when you think about how many Kindergarteners little fingers will be touching it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milam

  • Bring a Book Alive with a Nook!

    Funded Dec 7, 2011

I just wanted to take the time to show my gratitude for your donations to my classroom! We use the Nooks everyday and the students really love them. I can see their eagerness to read increase and they are becoming more and more excited about reading independently.

We mostly use the Nooks during our Literacy Workshop time and it allows the students to explore books independently. After students are done discovering a new story they have to write about what they thought about the story, and provide details. The Nooks have truly been an asset to our classroom and we look forward to getting enough to put into the hands of every student.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milam

My students are full of excitement about Second Grade and being in school! They are sweet and ready to learn new things every day. Our school is fairly new, it opened six years ago and is lacking many instructional materials and technology resources. Our school has a moderate poverty level, about 40% of our students receive a free or reduced lunch. My goal is to fill our classroom with the most technology possible to help our young students meet the goals of becoming 21st century learners and global competitors.
