Learners Seeking A Leveled Library
Funded Nov 19, 2013My students were so excited when I told them we were getting a leveled classroom library. As soon as my students saw the boxes being delivered to our classroom they were overcome with excitement. One student asked, "Can we open them now!?" Another student asked, "Do we get to keep them all year?"
We haven't wasted anytime using these books. Once they were put into our library, students were able to choose brand new independent reading books on their own level! These high interest books have been able to keep my readers engaged for a longer period of time. After assessing my students' reading levels this past week, some of them have already shown growth in their reading levels as a result of having a leveled library that allows for more independent reading.
Motivating students can sometimes be very challenging. However, with a variety of resources, it makes the task a lot easier. These books will truly help students' learning in many ways. By having multiple books on various reading levels students will be able to engage with books more than before. This will have a direct impact on increasing their reading levels even greater. They are already eager to increase their reading levels and they love when they get to move up to the next level. Not only will this library leave a mark on their academic performance, it has shown them an example of how far a generous act goes and I hope compel them to do the same one day.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Fleming
