Let’s Get Ready for Some Math!!
Funded Jun 29, 2024Thank you so much for your generous donations. We are off to amazing start to the 2025-2025 school year. My scholars love the comfy rug and LOVE the microphones that we use during our community meetings as well as when we talk about or math strategies. The white board easel is perfect for them to show/explain their strategies used to solve problems. The chart paper has been put to use for anchor charts hung around the room for students to use as a reference when needed. The lamps set the mood for our peace table when students need to take a break. Thank you so much for donating so my stunts have a safe, fun classroom!”

It's Greek to Me
Funded Mar 20, 2015Thank you so much for your donation. My class is very grateful for the books. When we opened the packages and see Hour of the Olympics and Ancient Greece and the Olympics, the smiles on their faces said it all. We jus started doing novel studies in January, and they were so excited to get 2 books each to read and use as resources.
We started our "It's Greek to Me" unit by reading Hour of the Olympics which is from the Magic Treehouse series. This was a starting place to get them excited about ancient Greece. We used Ancient Greece and the Olympics (fact tracker) as a resource guide. during the unit we created an interactive notebook for the students to use as we learned new things about ancient Greece. They were fascinated learning about all of the influences we has gotten from the Greeks.
Our culminating project was a newscast from ancient Greece. We had 2 news anchor who were awesome and incorporated many facts from their reading/research. We had a weather report complete with an impending storm because Zeus was angry with the boys from Sparta. We had special reports from the following locations : the grand opening of Plato's Academy, a city-state debate between Athens and Sparta, the red carpet at the premier of Aesop's fables, and the Mr. and Mrs. Mount Olympus parent as well as a special sports report form our Olympics. There were also breaking news from the Heroes: Theseus, Perseus, and Hercules as well as the Ancient Greece Most Wanted Monsters: the minotaur and Medusa. They had so much fun while they were learning. They used the books to help them while writing their scripts.
Commercials were also included. They got in groups, wrote scripts for Athena's Tunic Shop, Chariots for Less, the Armor Depot, Aphrodite's Spa, Columns R Us, the Autograph Shop which had Perseus's shield and Zeus's thunderbolt, the Agora, and a cute ad for Hercule's Sports Drink.
The impact of the students having their own books at their fingertips was awesome. I was able to teach research skills and they were completely absorbed while learning. It was an AWESOME unit. Thank you so much!!!!”
