How Our Past Shaped Our Future
Funded Aug 26, 2022Towers Falling is an amazing novel about the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001. The ability to use this fictional novel to teach a group of students who were not even alive during the event taking place is the reason why this novel study is so important.
The students were able to interact with the book and dive deep into the feelings of the characters and survivors of 9/11. It brings light onto a situation that is so heavy for many others and opens the doors for powerful discussions to take place.
Thank you for your incredible donations that helped to fund a full class set of this amazing novel for the classroom. Without you history would not be coming alive in our classroom.”

Funded Apr 7, 2022I want to give you the most heartfelt thank you for donating to our classroom. Your donation of a new carpet has changed the dynamic in our room. Students love to go on the carpet to read their favorite books, to collaborate with their teams, and to share their stories during our circle time.
Without your donations none of this would be possible. The impact of having a carpet in the classroom is life changing. This community area is a place where all of the students feel welcomed and safe. Many read alouds have happened on this area of the room and it is all because of your generosity.”

Funded Mar 1, 2022Starting the Endangered Animal Club at Vintage has been such a rewarding experience. The students from all of the 5th grade classrooms applied to be in the club. There were a total of 30 students that attended the lunch club meetings twice a month. Doing the research and educating the students and staff about the Endangered Animals we were sponsoring was such a benefit to our school.
The encouragement that was shown towards our project and the ability to gift others with a token of appreciation was so helpful in leading the cause at our school. One of the most exciting things is that we were able to adopt 7 animals this past school year. It has been such a joy and without your donations, none of this would have been possible.”

Funded Nov 10, 2021The supplies that have been donated to the classroom have helped increase the excitement in our classroom. Now when we are working on a project the students automatically ask for the sharpies to make their illustrations stand out. Working on group projects and using the smelly markers keeps the students engaged and the command hooks have helped us to become more organized in the classroom. Thank you so much for the composition books, they are slim and fit nicely into the students desks and allow them to take their science notes more effectively.
Last but not least, the Bluetooth speaker has impacted our classroom tremendously. During our science lessons the students are able to clearly hear and understand the content. It is an amazing treat and so useful in our classroom. Thank you so much for making such a great impact in our classroom!”

Funded Jan 24, 2020Thank you so much for your donations that allowed us to get a class set of The One and Only Ivan. Unfortunately with COVID-19 and the school shut down, the students were unable to experience holding these books in their hands.
What I was able to do was secure a PDF version of the book and so we were able to still experience the adventure and love for Ivan during distance learning. The students were so in love with this book and looked forward to joining our ELA Zoom session each day. Thank you so much for helping me to excite and encourage them to read literature.”

Making Stories Work Through Storyworks!
Funded Sep 27, 2019Storyworks has created a culture in the classroom towards research and reading. The students are loving the fact that the articles they are reading are relevant and real time issues. This months issue has an article about The Lost Colony and we are just entering our unit on Colonization so it is a great supplement to the classroom curriculum.
We have loved reading about "The Idoiomizer", it has been a neat and creative way of introducing and even reviewing Idioms with the class. The students are looking forward to each and every issue that they will get and are excited to see what each issue will talk about.
Thanks to your donations my class is excited about reading and I am even more excited about teaching.”

Funded Jun 20, 2019This project has made such an impact on my classroom this school year. When we put a new book into the hands of a child, something just happens. Their faces get happy and their minds start to imagine what is being held between the front and back cover. Seedfolks is a great book to use to teach character traits and theme. Each chapter of Seedfolks is actually an introduction to a new character. The kids loved seeing how each character was connected to someone else in the book and it was so fun to hear the laughs, gasps, and aha moments as they read through each chapter.
To culminate the book, each child was asked to create a poster about their favorite character that included 7 hashtags that had to do with a literary or writing standard. Now the students are presenting their projects and it is so rewarding to see how they connected with each character in the story. For their culminating writing project, they have all been tasked with creating their own chapter of Seedfolks that is based on themselves as a character. This book has been such an inspirational story for our class.”

Funded Jan 12, 2012I cannot begin to thank you enough for the wonderful gifts that have been donated to our classroom. We have fully begun to utilize all of the resources that we received. We started out by beginning to research an animal of our choice using the Encyclopedia Britannica CD that was given to our classroom. The most exciting thing for the children was when they researched their animal and not only information came up, but sound recordings of the actual animals. Some even had videos of the animals in their natural habitats! They were able to learn so much and at the same time access a multitude of information in one place.
I then allowed the children to look up photographs of their animals and print them out in color to complete their animal reports, they loved this. Many had not ever been able to print out pictures of anything in color. Your generous donations have allowed us to expand our research abilities and see our research truly become a reality. Thank you so much!!
