We Need Music
Funded Jan 3, 2023Thank you all so much for helping to fund my project! My students will be so happy that Opening Exercises are, "back to normal," and that their school song will play again over the loudspeaker.
I wish you could all see the smiles on their faces and their excitement as they dance. This little thing goes a long way in making the school day a rewarding experience for ALL of my students.”

Notebooks and Pencils for Everyone!
Funded May 6, 2019Thank you so much for the notebooks and the pencils! You can't imagine the look on my speech students faces when they watched me open the boxes and saw the brand new notebooks and a whole CARTON of sharpened pencils. Their smiles said it all.
Even though in the general scheme of things, these supplies are ordinary, my students come from backgrounds where every penny is precious and things like new school supplies are a luxury. In their minds, pre-sharpened pencils are probably one of the best things ever invented. They all loved the fact that there were six different colors of notebooks and they could all choose their favorite color. I loved the hard covered notebooks because my sign in book always loses it's cover before January and now, the book stays neat and orderly with no pages flying out in different directions.
Once again, on behalf of my students and me, I want to thank you so much for your generous donation!”

Crayons and Markers and Pencils, Oh My!
Funded Feb 1, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donations! Because of you, my students now have new art and writing supplies. You don't understand how wonderful this is because most of my students come from low income and temporary housing so having anything new and being the FIRST one to use something is special.
Every day at lunch time, the first thing my students ask is, will you be bringing out the chalk so we can draw? It's so exciting for them and so rewarding for me to see them express their creative side. Even something as small as a few different colored lines gives them joy and makes them proud. I am called from all ends of the playground to, "come and see what I just drew!"
In class, having new pencils, crayons, drawing paper and the AMAZING pencil sharpener makes my sessions so much easier. I don't have to scrounge around for old, broken crayons and my students know that I have plenty of extra pencils in case they don't have one. After every activity, I am asked, can we color what we just did? The new crayons have way more colors than just the standard 8 and the colorful pictures I see are testament to how much their creativity can shine.
Thank you again donors, from the bottom of my heart!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Bernstein
I Want to Tell the Story!!!
Funded May 23, 2018Once again, I want to thank you all so much for your donations to our, I Want to Tell the Story project. I wish you could have seen the smiles on my students faces when I showed them the book packs, the story boards and the brand new books.
Most of my students come from low income housing and there are some who live in shelters or foster care so having something new to use is always a cool thing. Books are a precious commodity in most of their homes so you should have seen how excited they were to read the book and have the story boards to tell the stories themselves. It was heartwarming to watch.
Having these manipulables has made my students see that it is "easy" to retell a story and that has made my job so much easier. My students are having fun while learning and for me, that is what is important. I want them to succeed and this is a wonderful tool to help them reach their goals.
My speech students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!”

A Bite of the iPads Apple
Funded Apr 7, 2018Once again, I want to thank you all so much for your donations to our iPad project. I wish you could have seen the smiles on my students faces when I took the iPads out of the closet. They started using them immediately, asking me if they could download apps and also trying out the ones I already loaded.
Most of my students come from low income housing and there are some who live in shelters or foster care so having a brand new piece of technology to use is exciting. The use of technology in my therapy sessions works twofold. One, there are so many apps that address the different areas of speech therapy that I can plan a session and lesson around a particular skill and then find an app that compliments it. Two, my students always want to try something new or different and the fact that they are learning while, 'playing' makes it easier for me, especially when I am working with a challenging student. I haven't had any complaints about completing a task when the student knows the iPad is waiting for him or her to use.
Having this little bit of technology in my room has made my job so much easier and my students are having fun while learning and for me, that is what is important. I want them to succeed and this is a wonderful tool to help them reach their goals.
My speech students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!”
