Let's Get Art Smart

Funded Jan 23, 2015

Thank you so much for your kind donations. My students were very excited when they heard the news about our art materials and new printer. They were very happy when they were given different materials to use in their drawings, other than crayons. It really motivated them to become "artists" and create shapes, and lines and drawings that they had just seen. We were fortunate to also get a field trip funded to the Getty Museum, and after returning, they all wanted to draw and become artists.

We had been doing a unit on the weather and I used a book I had received about Monet and read to them about him and his paintings. We also used the printer to print out 4 of his paintings about haystacks. He painted several versions of these during the different seasons, so the students were able to see how the colors changed with each season. They later used chalk and pencils to try and duplicate the "haystacks". Some of them also drew them in their thank you cards.

I believe this project helped inspire my students to learn more about different artists and to really look at a painting to see what is there. Many of them learned that the "floor" isn't at the bottom of the page and that art can be different yet still beautiful. My students wanted to go through each book and learn a little about each different artist. I am ever grateful that I have the resources to provide my students with the information they want to learn. Thank you again for your kind donations.”

With gratitude,
