We Want More Heart!
Funded Mar 7, 2012My words cannot express how thankful I am to everyone who helped to make this project a reality for my students! Looking at their end of year surveys, 90 percent of the students stated that dissecting the pig hearts was the most enjoyable and memorable lab of the year. The other students were only bothered because we didn't do more dissections! Many stated how much they learned about the human heart because of this lab, with a few students now wanting to become doctors because of it! Without you, my students would not have learned the value of comparative anatomy, simple dissection procedures and the anatomy and flow of blood through the heart. Thank you again for giving my students this opportunity!”

We Need Alternatives!
Funded Oct 4, 2011Thank you just doesn't seem to cover the magnitude of my appreciation for your donations to the project "We Need Alternatives!" Your generosity has been appreciated by over 100 middle school scholars. The fuel and energy alternative kits were able to be used to demonstrate the tragedies of overuse of fossil fuels, helped to calculate individual carbon footprints, and gave opportunities to create models to help understand the benefits of alternative energies. I thoroughly believe that my students were able to become better aware of their potential to impact their world and how resources are used. Thank you again! ”

This classroom project was brought to life by CenturyLink and 8 other donors.Hooked on Physics!
Funded Sep 15, 2011Thank you so much for your generous donation to the Hooked on Physics project! My students have been able to use the resources provided to support many activities through the 7th grade Physics unit. We have used the stopwatches to learn about speed, velocity, and acceleration. I believe that discovery learning where students can touch and interact with things to support their learning is one of the most beneficial ways for students to learn and retain their knowledge. Your support has allowed my students to explore physics in ways that they were unable to before by just looking at a wall clock.
Again, thank you so much for your support!”

The Heart Of The Matter
Funded Jan 5, 2011The looks on the eyes of the students as they opened their pig dissection kits were priceless. Some students were disgusted, some delighted, some didn't know what to be! This is truly one experience that children will truly never forget. By day 2, all of the students who were apprehensive about holding a pig heart were digging in and dissecting with the rest of them. This project allowed them to truly get a grasp on how blood flows through the heart and help secure the thought that the human heart was created in a way that will help it function to its full potential.
Thanks for the support and allowing my children the opportunity to grow in and enjoy science!”

Genetic Jive
Funded Mar 9, 2011Thank you for your extreme kindness in donating science laboratory supplies to our classroom! Our unit on human genetics was greatly improved due to the supplies that were donated. We were able to truly understand Mendelian Genetics and inheritance with the "gamete discs" that were donated. We were also able to understand that all individuals are unique with the ability to taste certain flavors due to the taste strips that were donated. We had a blast exploring mutations and genetic diseases, and can also now tell the probability of these traits being passed on. Thank you for adding life and wonder to our classroom!”

Them Bones
Funded Dec 5, 2010Thank you all for your kindness and generosity of spirit in providing the human skeleton for our 7th grade classroom. We are truly grateful to have such a bold new addition to our team! The classes suggested names and had a vote to finalize his name as "Grim" that will forever be inked on him with the year given. The class kicked off our study of the human body with Grim as our guide to get to know about bone names, classification of bones, and bone structure. Grim is considered a celebrity in our classroom and every week students who earn the highest quiz grades are dubbed "Anatomist of the week" which entitles them to have a special photo session taken with Grim.
Again thank you for all of your donations to impact not only learning about the human body, but to add to the culture of our classroom!”

For the Love of Life!
Funded Oct 13, 2010My students and I are truly grateful for your kindness and generosity in helping to fund this project. The materials that were provided included both real x-ray photographs of broken and complete bones that we have used in our classroom several times since the start of our human body unit. We have compared the differences between normal bones and fractured bones, have identified the scientific names of all the bone pictures, and have even named the types of fractures that are included in the photographs. The classroom has truly enjoyed using the brain, heart, and eyeball models as well. These materials have truly led our classroom to explore in depth about the human skeleton and we are so blessed to have been given these materials.
Thank you for everything!”
