  • Fuel (Nutritional Snacks) for a Win!

    Funded Feb 23, 2024

Last year was my first year involved with the soccer team at my school. When it came to game days, I didn't anticipate how hungry my students would before a match. I spent a lot of money trying to rectify the situation before each game, and as a teacher, on a teacher's salary, that became difficult.

This year, I knew I could turn to DonorsChoose. There are so many generous supporters who believe in teachers and education. This is so very much appreciated. I cannot thank you enough, and am happy to know that my students will be able to have healthy snacks to carry them over before their soccer games!

This couldn't have been done without you!”

Your generosity to my school and to my students is greatly appreciated. Donors like you always help to make a teacher and their students' lives brighter. We would not be able to bring joy to many of our students without your support.'

My students have been able to use materials to create class projects that help them demonstrate their understanding of materials. They have been able to use the printing station in order to create from websites, and bring their designs to life. They have create numerous projects and posters with the materials, and this could not have been possible without you.”

  • Relevant Reading for Teens

    Funded Jan 25, 2023

The students in my classroom thouroughly enjoyed the books that were received through this project. They were able to make better connections with the reading materials, and they were able to empathize witht he characters. It was also a way for many of my students from Spanish-speaking countries to be able to relate to students outside of their cultural norm.

Refugee explores characters from different ends of the world, from different time periods. At the end of the book, their stories intertwine in the most unique way. One student brought up the point in her final writing journal that this book helped her recognize as an immigrant/refugee students, that although the reasons for their journeys may be different, they are connected and more alike than she originally thought!

I loved the connections made by the students.”

  • School Supply Refill

    Funded Dec 12, 2022

School supplies are materials that teachers cannot take for granted. Without supplies, students can't complete the most basic task, and the unpreparedness for class triggers a cycle of not completing work on time, class distractions, etc. Unfortunately, it is often difficult for teachers to continue to supply their classrooms throughout the school year. Thanks to donors like you, we are able to keep our classrooms full of supplies, the students are able to complete their assignments, and classroom distractions are minimized.

Thank you for helping to supply my classroom with more school supplies!”

Twenty percent of the population at my school has limited English proficiency. As a reading and ESL teacher, I spend my time with children who are newcomers to the country, many being asylum seekers and refugees from Central America, South America, Asia, and Africa. My goal is to create a multilingual and diverse library of high interest children, teen, and young adult novels that will encourage an enjoyment of reading for everyone, not just students who are fluent in English. Research shows that students who have literacy skills in their native language are more likely to be successful becoming literate in English. I would also like to purchase headsets for book discussions and for the ability of students (who may have low fluency and/or literacy rates) to follow along in their novels using audiobooks.
