My students come from low socioeconomic back grounds. Parents often work late and have more than one job to support their families, a lot of my students also come from broken homes, divorced parents, and some have never met their biological parents. The result from working late or a lot for many parents means that my students help with childcare and around the house. So, homework and school work becomes less important for some students who are in these situations. We have seen that having them create their own game boards or anything that is theirs will give them ownership. Furthermore, a lot of the times it helps with grasping the concept, therefore, their understanding. Some students even come in during lunch to finish their projects. They love having something that is just theirs! Please help me help my students become successful and feel loved and cared for through the creation of their own game board.
