  • Making Amazing Clothes!

    Funded Aug 8, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom! The students loved knowing that people from all over had helped make this possible. We have had so much fun working on sewing-- from learning about fabric, practicing decorative embroidery, reviewing pattern making, and learning how to use a sewing machine for the first time. It can be hard to grasp a new skill, but my students have been intrepid, and really enthusiastic. It's a great experience to watch, and we cannot thank you enough for your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Amanda Tobier

  • Super Sewing Supplies!

    Funded Aug 7, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to this project. With your kind donation, we we were able to purchase essential supplies to learn how to sew, both by hand and on a sewing machine. The students loved making progress on their own projects, and without you, they could not have had the success they did. We loved having the supplies to create fabric projects, and begin to dream about making and designing clothes. If you have ever embarked on a creative project, you will know how it feels to see something you have made!”

  • Keeping Nourished, Safe, and Ready for the School Day!

    Funded Aug 10, 2019

Now that we are deep into the cold season, I am so happy to have cough drops and tissues for all my students! It may seem like a little thing to most people, but it's a huge luxury to have that little bit of solace when you're sick.

The cookies and crackers have also been a huge hit— working on your English paper is a lot easier when you have a snack to keep going.

There are students in our school who are not even in my class who show up at my desk asking for a band aid, or a cough drop— I've become a default comfort station, which is something wonderful to be. We appreciate your generosity so much!”

  • Kindness Beads to Practice Self Compassion

    Funded Feb 14, 2019

We had a wonderful afternoon making kindness beads in my peer mediation class! We sat together, and talked about good memories so that we would always associate these beads with nice times. It was a very calming activity, simply rolling the clay into balls and making them into beads. We experimented with different colors and marbling the clay. We took home the clay to bake them and the next day we used yarn to string them together.

Thank you for your generosity! We loved having so many colors of clay, and tools, to make these beads.”

  • It's So Easy to Learn to Sew!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

The sewing machine that you generously contributed to has been a huge success!! We "christened" it by having a sewing party after school. One student immediately jumped in and wanted to make a tote bag. Within 30 minutes, we were finishing up the straps on the bag. When her mother came to pick her up, we presented her with the bag. Her mom was so thrilled that she transferred everything out of the bag she was using into the new bag and showed it off to everyone she saw!

I have a second sewing party coming up this week, and the kids have been excitedly asking what they can make. We have pillows and scarves on the agenda!

thank you so very much for helping this sewing machine make its way to our class.”

  • Amazing Accordion Books for My Humanities Class!

    Funded Aug 29, 2018

I am writing this on the day before Thanksgiving, which is so appropriate for this letter of thanks. I look around our classroom and see all the supplies that we were able to obtain thanks to you, and I feel so grateful. Our students are able to use the beautiful watercolor paper, the paint, the specialty book-making tools, all to craft their accordion books.

In order to create these books, we have been concentrating on how the images will look with the words on the page. Reading the stories that they write gives an amazing window into who these people really are. They are writing the story of a Big Change in their life-- that may be as mundane as when they got braces, but also about how they came to the United States last year for the first time. Having the resources to make the accordion books with the supplies you donated will make these books memorable for all of us. The pictures I have uploaded show the title pages, which are their illuminated initials.

Thank you again, from room 408!!”

  • Bring Some Valentine's Love to Our School!

    Funded Jan 11, 2018

Thank you so much for providing the materials to make our event such a success! We used some books to make unique Valentines decorations. The students loved decorating the book art and then we wove in messages into the pages.

Whenever we have after school activities that involve art, I can see how the kids come alive with creativity. It's a great balance to the academic work they do during the day and they have a chance to socialize in with their friends. And it gives us a chance to get to know our students better.

    Thank you again!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Amanda Tobier

  • Reading the Power of One!

    Funded Nov 9, 2017

Thanks to your generous support, my students were able to read the wonderful novel, The Power of One. While their classmates were reading, my English language learners were excited to be able to engage in the book in the same way. Some of them used the translated versions that your donations made possible, and others used the dictionaries that came with your support. Now we are working on writing papers about the book, and we are all benefiting from the resources again.

I hope you know how grateful my class is, and I hope you get to read the book one day as well!”

    With gratitude,

  • Making Art That Stands Out!

    Funded Nov 14, 2017

We had such a wonderful time making Valentines cards! The kids loved using the paper punches and the glitter, and pasting the heart doilies on top for a special touch. This was the first time we had a party like this at our school, but it won't be the last!!

Thank you for providing your support to make this happen! I hope you realize that without your generosity we would not have been able to provide these resources for our students. I know that all of our Valentine's Days were full of love, and. Hope yours were too.”

    With gratitude,

  • Essentials for My ESL Classroom

    Funded Aug 26, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity! With your gift I've been able to add to my classroom library and have more resources for great projects. My students, who are from many countries including Ecuador, Mexico and Guatemala, use the dictionaries all the time to help them in their humanities class.

We also made silhouettes that each student embellished with details about themselves. Now we can use the laminating machine to cover them and hang them around the classroom.

Our class is so grateful to have these extra resources! Please accept our warmest thanks.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Amanda Tobier

This year I taught myself how to write with calligraphy, and instantly my students wanted me to write out their names, their report covers, letters to their parents... and I even ended up writing out the diplomas to our graduating seniors! I know they will love to have this skill for themselves, and really show off their stories which they are working on in my class this year. I have seen how dependent they are on typing (as many of us have become) and I believe that handwriting is a lost art that is important in so many ways. Great writing deserves great pens!
