  • Independent Reading Books For Immigrant & Refugee Students

    Funded Sep 24, 2024

WOW! Let me tell you... These books have made such an impact in my classroom. My English Language Learner students are excited and happy for SSR. It has been such a huge change. The books in Spanish have been especially helpful to my three students who speak no English at all. The graphic novels have made a large impact on all of my students, especially my lower level ones who struggle to find books they understand without the content being too immature. Thank you so much for thinking of my students and contributing to our classroom library. My students and I are so incredibly grateful.”

  • Independent Reading Books for Underrepresented Readers

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

Thank you so much for helping to provide precious resources for my English Language Learner students. These kids desperately want to meaningfully participate in Silent Sustained Reading, and the books that you helped provide do just that. They are so incredibly happy to have books in our classroom that they can utilize. These sweet kids come here from other countries, without speaking a word of the language, and are expected to do everything the other kids are doing. It just doesn't work that way. By providing them with books that they can connect to, they are so excited to come to class every day. Thanks for being part of that.”

  • Silent Sustained Reading: Students Need Engaging Novel Choices

    Funded Mar 9, 2024

Thank you so much for investing in my students' classroom library. I ended last school year on maternity leave, so I was so excited to introduce these titles to my new classes this year. They were so happy to have so many high interest titles to read for SSR. We did an activity called "Book Speed Dating" where they spent 1 minute reading each book and reviewing it. The activity allowed students to gain exposure to the new books in our classroom. They were over-the-moon to get "new books" instead of "dusty books". Students now read these books for 10 minutes a day, everyday during SSR. They are making a huge impact on student engagement. Thank you again!!!”

  • Books For Boys: Engaging Reluctant Readers

    Funded Nov 11, 2023

Thank you so much for helping to get my boys reading! Contributing to our classroom library not only helps me financially, preventing me from having to spend a lot of extra money improving our library, but it also gives my students high-interest books that they love reading. These additions to our library are some of the class's favorite books. They are used every single day and have made a huge impact on our classroom. It no longer feels like pulling teeth to get my most reluctant readers engaged in Silent Sustained Reading. They absolutely love our new books. Thank you so much for being part of that.”

  • Empowering Struggling Readers: Fueling Confidence Through Graphic Novels

    Funded Aug 27, 2023

Getting kids to read can be like pulling teeth sometimes; however, with the addition of these amazing graphic novels, my students come to class excited to read. Thank you so much for helping get my kids excited to come to class every day and read. Each time we got another Amazon package in the mail, I would open it in front of the students. They would get so happy when they saw each new title. Our classroom library now rivals the school's library in regards to its graphic novel selection, and every title is readily accessible to them every single day. Thank you again for being part of that.”

  • Desperate for Dictionaries

    Funded Oct 8, 2022

When I tell you that we use these dictionaries in class every single day, I am not exaggerating. The dictionaries that you helped contribute to have made a tremendous impact in my classroom. Students are practicing skills that they desperately need in order to be successful in life. They have become more independent. They have learned not to ask me what a word means, but instead they ask me if they can grab a dictionary. My ESL students have also been greatly impacted by the picture, Spanish to English, and idiom dictionaries that were donated. Thank you so much for thinking about my classroom and contributing to this updated, reliable collection of dictionaries.”

  • Classroom Novel - Refugee - Teaching Kids Empathy

    Funded Oct 7, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom set of Refugee by Alan Gratz. My advanced students are finishing up reading the novel. It has had a tremendous impact in my classroom. They are thoroughly enjoying reading the three narrator's story lines. Each group is reading one story line and then sharing the narrator's story with the rest of the class. They are then making connections between the stories. It is really wonderful to see how the refugee's stories are impacting the students. It has also allowed me to bring in various nonfiction pieces that give background for the storylines. Thank you again for being part of this amazing lesson on empathy that my students are learning.”

  • Classroom Basics For Social Studies Success!

    Funded Aug 23, 2021

Thank you so much to all of the generous donors that went out of the way to think about my students. We are very lucky to have been able to use the multicultural markers and colored pencils in various different activities throughout this school year. My kids were so excited to be able to find colors that truly represent the people they are trying to depict in their artwork and projects. We are one of the few classrooms that have access to these types of materials. We have also been able to display these images thanks to the sheet protectors and mounting tape. We truly appreciate your kindness.”

  • Collaborating Regardless of Learning Location!

    Funded Mar 18, 2021

Thank you so much for contributing to my students and classroom during this difficult time. Chromebooks are a hot commodity right now. With my STEM students being both face-to-face and virtual, we try to bridge the gap as much as possible. The chromebook that you helped fund has been utilized to Zoom with virtual classmates as well as complete collaborative assignments like Google Docs, Google Slides, PBL, Quizizz, etc. This chromebook has brought joy to my students. They get so excited when they are able to collaborate together. Thank you for being a part of that.”

I am one of the AVID elective teachers on my campus as well as the AVID Site Coordinator. AVID is a class, but it is also a schoolwide program that utilizes a curriculum based on an acronym called WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading). AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing ALL students for college readiness and success in a global society. My students tend to come from socio-economically disadvantaged families where they are the first in their family to go to college. My students truly are advancing via their individual determination.
