I am so grateful for your generous donations to my students! Because of you they will start first grade with brand new books to grow their love of reading! They will feel so special to know that you care so much about them and their reading achievements. This is such a blessing and an amazing start to my fourth year teaching.”

    Ms. Nunley

  • A Place for Everyone

I am in awe at how quickly this resource was funded! Thank you so much for making a difference in our classroom with a new carpet. We will all sit on the carpet every day to learn reading and math. This carpet will make the children feel loved and cared for because they will each have a place to belong.”

  • Chromebooks for Learning

    Funded Feb 23, 2018

Your generous donation has provided four Chromebooks for our classroom, that we use daily for instruction. When you donate to children, you are investing in the future. Thank you for the impact you have made on 28 student's lives and also the lives of my future first grade students to come. We have used the Chromebooks for 3 weeks now and all students have had the chance to use them. They are thrilled with this addition to our learning environment!

We use this new technology to provide an independent center for my students during reading centers each morning. Students go to this center to practice phonics skills, reading fluency, reading comprehension, and sight words. This new technology also makes it possible for us to provide an additional online intervention program to students below grade level to make sure they are improving and finishing the year ready for second grade. Soon we will be using the Chromebooks to teach our first graders typing skills because standardized tests are switching to an online format where students will be required to type. The Chromebooks will help hone those skills.

Once again, thank you so much for this impact on our classroom! We cannot wait to see how else the Chromebooks will change our learning for the better. The possibilities are endless and with great partners like you, the future is bright for my first graders and the first graders I will teach in the years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nunley

  • Technology in the Classroom

    Funded Nov 20, 2015

Back in November a prayer was answered for my students and it was all because of each of you. Thanks to you, my first grade students at William Dean Jr Elementary in Lexington, Mississippi now have access to five iPads to better improve their reading skills. Thanks to you, their joy for reading has increased dramatically and thanks to you they now have access to a technology that many of us may take for granted on a daily basis.

Many of us have access to computers, tablets, and cellphones. We also have Internet in our homes. This is a luxury that most of my children do not receive. Think about how internet access helps you in your daily life without you ever realizing it. You have given the gift of that luxury. My students now have access to several programs that are proven to promote literacy rates in school-aged children.

Even with iPads in hand, I could the tell the most exciting thing for my kids was that someone like each of you cared so much about them. "They love us, Ms. Nunley" was a phrase heard many times as they opened the boxes that were shipped to our school with their brand new technology. From the bottom of our hearts, we are so grateful for your contribution.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nunley

Kindergarten is an option, not a requirement, in my state. Many of my children come to me in 1st grade without ever being exposed to books and pre-reading skills. Many families in my region do not have the funds to expose their children to critical pre-reading skills before they enroll in school. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, less than 12% receive a bachelor's degree in the county where I teach. Students' inability to read is a huge contributor to that statistic. Parents want to give their children what they need to gain the opportunities that proficient reading allows but simply cannot afford it. I want to give my students the electronic books and educational games that they need to become proficient readers but I am unable to do so without your assistance.
