  • Time Magazine for 6th Graders

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous contribution to our DonorsChoose project, which has allowed my 6th-grade classes to receive Time for Kids on a monthly basis. Your support has made an incredible impact on my students and their learning experience.

In today's fast-paced world, staying informed and understanding current events is more important than ever. Thanks to your generosity, my students now have access to high-quality, age-appropriate journalism that not only engages them but also inspires critical thinking and curiosity about the world around them. Each issue of Time for Kids provides my students with the opportunity to explore diverse topics, from science and technology to culture and global issues, helping them become informed and thoughtful citizens.

Thank you again for your generous donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Heath

  • IXL in the 6th Grade

    Funded May 7, 2024

Thank you all for supporting the "IXL in the 6th Grade" project. Your contribution has made a significant difference in our classroom, and I wanted to share with you the remarkable impact this technology has had on our students. The IXL program has provided a personalized learning experience that adapts to each student's skill level, allowing them to progress at their own pace. This tailored approach has been invaluable in addressing the diverse needs within our classroom. Many students who previously struggled with math and language arts are now showing increased confidence and improvement in their skills.

One of the most exciting aspects of IXL is its immediate feedback system. Students are thrilled to see instant results and explanations, which helps them understand their mistakes and learn from them on the spot. This real-time interaction keeps them motivated and invested in their learning journey. For example, Sarah, who initially found math challenging, has blossomed through the targeted practice IXL provides. She often volunteers to share her progress and is now helping her peers, demonstrating a newfound enthusiasm for the subject.

Your support has not only enhanced our educational resources but has also inspired a love for learning among our students. We deeply appreciate your generosity and commitment to our school community. Thank you for making a meaningful impact on their educational experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Heath

  • Independent Learning with IXL

    Funded May 8, 2023

Thank you all so much for donating! This project has allowed for the funding of IXL math and reading. Every sixth grader at Valley Mills is showing growth in reading and math because of this technology.

Students enjoy seeing their smart score increase with every right answer. Students that struggle with a skill will watch the helpful tutorials that demonstrate how to solve the problems.

IXL allows for the 6th grade teachers at Valley Mills to create independent learning opportunities for their students. This is a great teaching tool!”

  • Incentives for Kindness, Respect, & Participation

    Funded Jan 13, 2023

Thank you all so much in supporting the sixth graders at Valley Mills in Indianapolis, Indiana. The students are loving the new incentives. When they first saw the new tangible incentives, they were encouraged to increase their positive behaviors around the school building and in the classroom.

The incentives are being used throughout the school day. Students can earn a prize for different achievements such as academics or positive behavior. Every week students can choose a prize for earning specific scores on quizzes and tests. They also earn rewards for attending class everyday and turning in homework on time.

Again, thank you all for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Heath

  • Independent Learning with IXL

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for your support of the 6th grade students and teachers at Valley Mills Elementary School in Indianapolis. IXL will go a long way in supporting the individual needs of all the 6th grade students in math and English Language Arts.

IXL is currently already showing an improvement in the students' understandings of different skill topics. The students have been using IXL to help fill gaps and push themselves to a higher understanding of their current lessons and topics.

Again, thank you so much for your help in funding this essential program for our 6th graders!”

  • Social Studies Curriculum Needed

    Funded Dec 13, 2021

Thank you all so much for donating towards this project! Our school district does not have a social studies curriculum for 6th grade. It is up to the teachers to develop all of the lessons.

With your support, I have been able to incorporate engaging lessons and materials through teacher pay teacher. These resources, created by other 6th grade social studies teachers, have helped increase the interest and understanding of my 6th graders.

The 6th graders have enjoyed learning about the Mesoamerican cultures and the middle ages. Thank you again so much for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Heath

  • Sports Equipment

    Funded Sep 8, 2021

Thank you all so much for donating to this project. The sports equipment was needed to help the students practice their skills out at recess. This equipment also encourages teamwork and group play.

The students were not allowed to play together last year, due to covid restrictions. This year it has been nice seeing them play together again. They love the new equipment that they now get to use. The basketballs, kickball, and soccer balls that we had were old and did not hold air well anymore. The new equipment is great and the students are having a blast at recess.

The students enjoy playing a variety of sports and we were in need of equipment! Without you this would not have been possible, again, thank you all so much for donating!”

  • Learning With IXL

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thank you all for helping fund this project. IXL is a great way to help students learn new skills or practice content already covered in previous grades. Students are able to work at their level and skill.

In the classroom, we are able to differentiate the smart scores students need to achieve in order to complete an IXL. If students struggle with a particular skill, IXL will suggest another skill for the student to try. If students excel in a skill, IXL will suggest a similar but more difficult skill to try.

Students enjoy seeing their smart score grow and seeing their progress throughout the year as they complete grade level skills. The students using the math and reading IXLs have shown an improvement of understanding and confidence. Thank you again for helping to make this technology available to the 6th graders!”

  • Fun Classroom Incentives & Supplies

    Funded Jan 1, 2021

Thank you for helping out the 6th grade at Valley Mills Elementary. The students are enjoying the new incentives and classroom supplies.

Since the start of covid, we have had to change the way we reward students and use supplies in the classroom. The individual classroom supplies and rewards have been a big help in making all of this possible. Students have mechanic pencils they keep at their desks and no longer need to use the classroom pencil sharpener. Several of the classroom incentives that used to be possible before covid are no longer safe with covid. Giving students tangible, covid safe rewards has been a big help in creating a fun, safe classroom environment. Again, thank you for all your help!”

  • Personalize Learning with IXL

    Funded May 29, 2020

Thank you all for your donations and helping to make learning more student focused in 6th grade math, science, and social studies. The students are now able to work at their own rate and skill level to complete individual assignments.

Students enjoy seeing the rewards they earn when they pass a skill. The teachers are able to assign skills at the level each student is at. Some students are working on skills to help fill in information they had previously been taught from 5th grade, while others are using IXL to expand their knowledge on topics they are currently learning.

Again, thank you all for your help in supporting this project!”

    With gratitude,
