Sorry for the long-awaited response. Our classroom has been busy learning and exploring!
My students are obsessed with using legos to build. It is the top choice during game time and a very popular request. They are continuously amazed at the endless possibilities of what they can create.
They work together as a team to build machines, use kind words to share, and are most importantly PROUD of their own accomplishments.
When they first found out that we had received brand new legos (we only had a small class set) they were so excited. Even better, when I told them that people we did not know gave us money so that we could have them, they were amazed!
Thank you for teaching my students that kind, generous people exist in this world and CARE about them and their learning. It has taught them the importance of empathy in a world that seems cold.

Hi! I'm a 1st grade Special Education teacher working in a low-income district. My students face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite all of these challenges, my students walk into school each morning eager and ready to learn. They are fun, loving, and love to move! In our classroom we place a strong emphasis on social-emotional learning and building social skills, such as using kind words, having a caring heart, and working as a team! We are learning to incorporate and appreciate each other's differences.
