Funded Oct 17, 2020It is with our sincere gratitude that I write to let you know how my students were able to use the materials you have provided. One of the largest project thus far is the black history month's project. Students choose a black inventor and use the markers, color cardstock paper and cardboard to make models of the inventors invention. For example there were letter boxes, iron board, traffic lights, and refrigerator. Unfortunately these were all made at home and presented via google classroom.
The materials were displayed by me.Then students were invited using the guidelines provided by my school. They were allotted time using their surnames, to come to the lobby of the school and collect the materials they needed for their project. The students were excited to see all the materials in one place. They took what they needed and with the help of parents and other relatives who were home created some fantastic projects. This opportunity afforded them an outlet, a way to do the things they would have normal done at school at home.
I am hoping that in the very near future we all will be in the school building. I am going to create another project before the end of the school year, so that students will work together at a socially accepted distance using the left over materials.”

Mrs. Ross

Funded May 23, 2018Once again thank you for your generous donation. The books the students received have already captured their interest. Some of the books are helping students with identifying the main ideas and details that support the main ideas. While other books give them first hand knowledge of story sequence. They are also offered the opportunity to see how authors use cause and effect relationship in their writing. These skills together will certainly help my students to become better writing.
In the classroom my students read their leveled books independently. They also read with a partner and discuss the story, its main ideas, details, and sequence impact the story. How the authors use these different skills and strategies for conflicts and resolutions. Then there is guided reading, here the teacher chooses one area of focus per day. She sits with a small group of students who are reading on the same level They will all have the same book. She will listen and monitor each students as they read. If her focus for the day is fluency , then she will model, then listen to each student read and assist them with connotation (feeling the word invokes) and enunciation (act of pronouncing words) of words.
There are some students who are terrified of books with a lot of pages. These students are the ones who are enjoying these books. They are proud to show off their reading logs. They are reading about three books per week. This is great because these students and the rest of the class will improve their vocabulary, and their writing.
The printer will help the students print their publish pieces of writing and their research to complete projects.”

Mrs. Ross
Materials Made Easy
Funded Mar 27, 2018We cannot thank you enough for your generous contribution to our class. The pencils, sharper, and the whiteboard markers allow each child access at all times to a writing tool. Where writing is concern each child has an equal opportunity. The rolling cart allows students to organizer their guided reading books, and make them easily accessible. The students are using their math daily journal to reinforce the daily math concept.
When this group of students were introduced to the materials, they were elated. That were never exposed to dry erase markers of their own. So they excitement was real. Knowing they do not have to ask the teacher to use the markers, they're theirs to use when needed, was a great introduction to the school year, a sense of ownerships. The rolling card brought its own excitement. Seeing their guided reading books, organized and easily accessible give then a sense of security. Finally, the joy of seeing the daily journals was gratifying. This is the first time in their school life that they are able to practice daily math concepts in their own journal. They asked questions such as, Is it ours to Keep? Can we take it home to show our parents? Can we take it to lunch to show our friends? They excitement can be heard in their voices. Overall the students were excited and thankful.
Since every students in my class has access to all the materials at all times, every student will be expected to complete one activity in their journal daily using the materials available to them. For this we are very grateful.”

Mrs. Ross
