As we prepare to transition back to 100% in-person learning after a challenging year due to the global pandemic, I want my students to be as comfortable and prepared as possible. Last year, students who attended in-person school sat in one classroom in the same desk with plexiglass on 3 sides of them for the entire day and the teachers rotated out. Many students expressed how much they hated sitting in the desk all day. Having these materials will allow my students to have flexible seating arrangements to promote a comfortable, nurturing environment. Some of the materials, such as the whiteboard, markers, and erasers, will be used to increase student engagement throughout the year. Also, the anchor charts and materials to to create anchor charts will allow students to have resources they can continue to reference when working independently in their classroom during the year. Donating to Operation Classroom Makeover will provide my students with the resources needed to close instructional gaps caused by the pandemic, increase student engagement in the classroom (especially for students used to virtual learning), and encourage high academic achievement! My students come from an underserved community in Houston, but they show up to class daily with a positive ready-to-learn attitude. I want them to be able to attend school and have the materials they need readily available so they can achieve the highest level of success possible. Receiving these donations will help my students feel included within their community, and be well prepared for academic success for the year!
