By allowing my students to pick a seat that is comfortable to them, they will be able to let their extra energy escape throughout the day as we learn. The alternative seating options that we are hoping to receive will be spread throughout the classroom for the students to use. Flexible seating in the classroom will allow my second graders to choose a learning space that will work best for them. This type of seating option will allow students to communicate, collaborate, and engage in critical thinking with one another throughout the day. Every student has different needs. We are slowly getting away from the "traditional" classroom setting in schools. Students need movement, a chance to walk around while working, or even given the opportunity to bounce or stand as they work on core instruction. By having a variety of core building seating options such as wobble stools, stability balls, stools, and scoop seats, this will allow my kiddos the flexibility to choose an option that is going to best suit them. Not only will the students focus on core strength building, but students will be more engaged to the content being taught. My hope is that by allowing my students to have a choice in where they want to sit and how they want to learn for the day, they will become more responsible learners inside and outside of the classroom.
