Drop It Like It's Hot!

Funded Apr 24, 2012

While I write this letter in thanks to you, I know that these words do not do justice to the amount of appreciation I have towards donors like you. The reading and math comprehension "Hot Dots" set arrived in a timely manner and my kids were just as overjoyed and excited as I was to receive them. Instantly, my kids had a new-found motivation to learn. Rather than me assigning a task to the students, they were asking me if they could use them.

The sets and pens have already come in handy. We use them at least three times a week during our Guided Reading to practice our reading skill of the week such as sequencing, drawing conclusions, context clues, and predicting. We use them almost daily in mathematics to reinforce grade level skills when solving problems using regrouping, multiplication, and place value. To my surprise, the students are not embarrassed to mark down if they got an answer wrong. They not only mark their wrong response down, but even go as far as to correct their own work just like the "Hot Dots" are meant for! In fact, the students enjoy them so much that they have even asked to stay in at lunch time and use them to practice.

Due to budgetary constraints in schools like the one I work in, it is overwhelmingly hard to get resources and supplies for the students. To dive even deeper, these are the students who need the most resources and supplies they can get. It takes a special person to recognize a need and be willing to fill it. Without the kindness and generosity of people like you, our students would be even further away from success. You have helped them take one step closer to not only learning and succeeding but to developing that love of learning we always hope they cultivate.”

With gratitude,

Ms. DeGrazia
