Multiplication Masters!!
Funded Sep 11, 2024My students LOVE their array flashcards!! They were so excited to receive them!! They use them every day in class and at home.
With the new flashcards, we can get straight to the heart of practicing multiplication facts, without spending so many days on the prep work of previous years. The color-coding by number is fantastic and allows students to easily find the flashcards that they are looking for.
To demonstrate their understanding of the commutative property, students turn the flashcards 90 degrees and using the wet erase marker, write a second equation that matches the rotated array.
Students have used the flashcards to discover patterns in both the arrays themselves as well as the counting patterns for the answers.
Binder clips help them stay organized by the number we are practicing.
These flashcards have enabled my students to feel successful and for me to feel more effective in my own teaching and time management.

Funded Mar 24, 2024My students absolutely LOVE their new supplies!! The materials are helping them become great learners and scholars!!
The binders and binder tabs are helping them become more organized. They are learning that there is a specific category for each paper that I give them, and they are able to find what they are looking for quickly.
The green and blue spirals are critical in helping my students organize their thoughts by language. Since we are a dual language (English/Spanish) classroom, the students need to be able to shift their thinking into the language of the day or activity. Having color-coded spiral notebooks, one for each language, really helps them with this.
My students LOVE using the playing cards during math. So far, they have learned two different math games that are helping them develop their mathematical thinking, while still having fun!!
The earbuds are helping my students become better readers. When they use reading apps, they can listen and follow along as the app reads the book to them. This is especially useful for struggling readers and students who are new to the country and are learning English. However, without earbuds, it can become loud and hard to focus when everyone is listening to a story. The earbuds solve this problem beautifully!
The highlighters are helping my students focus on text evidence when they read. They must always refer back to the text to justify answers to questions. They highlight the evidence they find and use it to formulate written answers to questions.

They are SO much more effective and efficient than my old system where students would make their own array flashcards. No more making dozens and dozens of copies!! No more messy gluing and time-consuming prep!! No more miscounting and errors!!
With the new flashcards, we can get straight to the meat of practicing multiplication facts, without spending so many days on the prep work.
The color-coding by number is fantastic and allows students to easily find the flashcards that they are looking for. Students use wet erase markers to rotate the flashcards and write the other multiplication equation, using the commutative property. Students have used the flashcards to discover patterns in both the arrays themselves as well as the counting patterns for the answers.

We've Got the Wiggles!

What I have noticed:
Students no longer lean back in their chairs (and balance dangerously on the 2 rear legs)!! My students are also able to focus for longer periods of time on their work!!

We Need a Safe Library!
Funded Mar 15, 2022My students LOVE the new bookshelf SO much!! When the bookshelf first arrived, they were very excited and surprised at how big it was!!
The fact that the new bookshelf is very stable and won't fall over is a huge relief to all of us!! Since the bookshelf is able to stand up on it's own, it can be placed anywhere in the room. I was able to position it in a way that freed up the space where the OLD bookshelf was. I put some comfy seating in the "new" space, which the students love to use!!
Also, the new bookshelf enabled me to reorganize the library in a way that gives the students better access to the books. I created tubs of front-facing books, making it MUCH easier to see everything. This new approach also allowed me to organize the titles by categories like fiction, non-fiction, and chapter books.
The new bookshelf has created so many opportunities for students to access and enjoy the books. Being able to safely browse books based off of their interests, plays a huge role in creating life-long lovers of reading!! We thank you so very much!!”

With One iPad Mini, We Can Become Better Bilingual Readers!!
Funded Nov 30, 2016I simply cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to our classroom. With your help, I was able to purchase a mini iPad and a protective case for it. So far, the students have used it to read bilingual fiction and non-fiction books. The app we use allows students to take quizzes to gauge their comprehension of what they have read. They are able to refer back to the text to locate the information they need to choose an answer and even correct their mistakes. The app also helps them develop their grammar skills. Practicing all of these skills will greatly help them become better readers.
Students have also had the opportunity to develop their math skills using and app called ST Math. This app is very powerful because it uses images and nonverbal methods to home a student's math skills. This app has been proven to help students be successful on the end of year state math tests as well.

What's Missing From This Photo? Technology!!
Funded Sep 30, 2015I simply cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to our classroom. With your help, I was able to purchase 3 mini iPads, as well as 3 protective cases for them. So far, the students have used them to read English and Spanish fiction and non-fiction books. You might not know this, but having access to the exact same books in both languages is extraordinary, since it is often difficult to find corresponding texts in Spanish. Also, access to high-quality non-fiction books is also something that has been difficult to come by. The app we use allows students to take quizzes to check their comprehension of what they have read. They are able to refer back to the text to locate the information they need to choose an answer and even correct their mistakes. Once they have more practice, they will start using another website that has news articles about current events. Students will be able to adjust the text to their own reading level, in both languages. Practicing all of these skills will greatly help them become better readers, and for this, we are all extremely grateful.”
