I work with a group of special education high school students between the ages of 16-19, who make up the Inclusion class. My students are a part of NYC's District 75 which was specially designed to support students with moderate to severe disabilities. I work with students who have a variety of disabilities including autism, speech/language disorders, and intellectual disabilities. District 75 offers students who require intense structure and differentiated instruction a variety of educational environments to meet their needs. My students have worked incredibly hard to develop skills that allow them to move out of a self-contained class and participate in a general education high school environment. They take 4 general education classes (math, science, English, and history) as well as have advisory and lunch with their general education peers. This is an amazing opportunity for them to have access to a rigorous curriculum as well as social interaction with general education peers.
