My goal this year is to focus on individual students and what tools and skills they need to make them successful. I am beginning a new math program called "Toothy" in which students are able to work independently on targeted skills. Independent math stations will boost student's confidence in the area of mathematics as they practice and master their deficit skills. These independent skill based activities will also allow me to pull small groups or individuals aside and work on needed skills. "Toothy" math is a wonderful strategy for making math fun while mastering skills. All we need to make this happen is lots of card stock, ink, and reusable clear pockets! However, the materials to produce these activities is quite expensive. I desire for my students to have this opportunity for independent, fun and skill based learning through math centers. I also want to boost student independence in the area of reading. The whisper phones will aid in student independence during our Daily 5 reading framework. This tool will allow student to receive automatic feedback into their ear as they read and become accustomed to hearing the words they are reading. This skill improves student's fluency rates as well as improves their comprehension skills. Whisper phones are a tool that help students take responsibility of their own learning and progress in reading. Students will carry these in their book boxes and uses them as needed. We would appreciate any help with this project and helping our students become independent and confident learners and simultaneously enjoying learning. The ability to learn independently and mastering math and reading skills will benefit students throughout their education and life!
