Food for Thought
Funded Jul 24, 2022On July 24, 2022, I was excited to find that my project on Donors Choose, "Food for Thought" had gotten fully funded! With the start of the new school year last week, I had explained to my students on day one that if a day comes where they are feeling tired, hungry or not in the mood to make art, that I now have a supply of basic snacks and drinks for them to get some energy thanks to generous donors like you!
When the students first seen the supply of food and drinks they were very happy and thankful that people were generous enough to make donations. They now feel comforted knowing that this is available for them if they need it. A few have already taken advantage of asking for some snacks and a drink before beginning their work over the past two days. This would not have been possible without you all!”

More Ways to Display Artwork for All to See
Funded Apr 14, 2022On April 13, 2022, I was so happy to find that my project "More Ways to Display Art for All too See" had gotten fully funded! This project contained a few different ways to hang my students 2D art including a bulletin board, Velcro mounting strips and a bunch of felt pin board strips.
Once they arrived, I immediately hung up the felt pin board strips above a section of lockers outside of my room and displayed some of my students art. The bulletin board was hung inside my classroom to display some art inside the classroom as well as in the halls. Once my students seen their work hung up they were super excited. As the new school year approaches I will be able to display my new students art as well as those for years to come and it is all thanks to you!”

Funded Mar 29, 2022On March 29, 2022, I was beyond excited to find that one of my most important projects on DonorsChoose had gotten fully funded! This was my most expensive project I have ever posted and I had thought for sure it was never going to get funded. Once I received the four large enclosed bulletin boards I immediately requested a work order to have a carpenter come install them along the wall in my bare hallway.
It only took a few weeks and they were installed outside of my Art room. Once installed, I hung work from my General Art 1 students in each one. Students who seen their own work displayed were in absolute awe. In addition, the amount of compliments I heard daily from other students and staff members about the displayed work were unreal! Thanks to you, you have brightened up my hallway, the school and students faces each day.”

Sturdy Shelving
Funded Mar 29, 2022On March 29, 2022, I was delighted to find that my project "Sturdy Shelving" had gotten fully funded! When the materials first arrived, I had to wait a few weeks before a carpenter could come in to install the units. After installed, it was then time to show the students. They were so happy that the shelves were finally installed so that boxes and other art supplies kept on the floor now had a home. This allowed for more floor space to store their three-dimensional projects. Some generous students even asked to help place the items from the floor on the shelves. Thanks to you we now have more floor space to store student work and more lifted space to store supplies and project examples.”

Aprons and Goggles
Funded Mar 29, 2022On March 29, 2022 I was happy to find my project "Aprons and Goggles" had gotten fully funded! Before this, my classroom had only six pairs of goggles that had to be shared between twenty-four students during our glass arts unit. Students cut and shape glass that is then turned into beautiful mosaics and stained-glass compositions. Goggles help protect their eyes during this process. Once the goggles arrived, I was able to fill up our new UV cleaning goggle cabinet. Each student will now be able to have a sanitary pair of goggles while working with glass cutting tools.
The other product received in this Donors Choose project was twenty-four aprons. During the ceramics unit, students work with clay that often leaves white dust on the floor and their clothing. Having aprons for each student to wear will protect their clothing from the clay dust. The aprons can also be used when painting in my General Art classes. These supplies will not only help my current students but all of my students for years to come. It would not have been possible without your generous support.”

Paint for Murals!
Funded Mar 29, 2022On March 29, 2022 I was delighted to find that my Donors Choose project "Paint for Murals" was fully funded. In early February, the art teachers at TCHS - VPA got the okay to begin painting murals on the walls in our newly built high school. They then explained that they would not be providing any funding for supplies to do this so we would have to use what we have for our classes or find funding another way. Of coarse right away I turned to Donors Choose whose donors have helped me with these situations many times before.
The paint arrived shortly after the project was fully funded. At that point, the first mural planned by the Art Club was drawn out on the wall and only a few sections had been filled in with paint that I had in my supply closet. Once the new gallons arrived, we were able to continue painting all the sections and have been continuing to paint it each week! We will hopefully finish the entire mural by the end of the school year. This would not be possible without all your help! We are truly grateful for your support.”

Art on Display
Funded Feb 9, 2022On February 9th 2022, my project "Art on Display" was fully funded. I was so happy to see this news. For the past three years in our new building, I have struggled to keep students work on the walls with tape often having things fall off a few days later. Receiving the bulletin boards I requested, will allow for me to display students 2D work in my classroom securely with pins.
Once the bulletin boards are mounted on the walls, I will be able to display the work of my students for all to see. This will allow for them to view each other's work and participate in class gallery walks as well as class critiques. Students will enjoy seeing their work on display as well as the work of their peers.
Moreover, having these bulletin boards to display student work will not only allow for my current students to have their work displayed but for all my future classes to come. I cannot thank you all enough.”

Pocket Translator for my ESL Students
Funded Feb 9, 2022On February 9, 2022, my project "Pocket Translator of my ESL Students" was fully funded. I was so excited to finally be able to have a device that would make communicating with my Spanish speaking students more accurate and clear. As a teacher in an urban district, the influx of non-English speaking students increases almost every year. Although this device was intended for my Spanish speaking students, I can also use it for future students who speak other languages as well.
As a teacher of Art, I always begin my classes with a do now question, transition to a demonstration or present new information and end class with an exit question. For my ELL students, this can be very difficult as they do not understand what is being said verbally or on the board. I can now speak into the translator as I teach, and the device will reciprocate what is being said so that all content is understood.
After receiving the device, I showed my ELL students right away. They were excited to see that now if there is something they do not understand they could use the device to ask me questions for clarification. Moreover, this device will be extremely helpful for my current ELL students and those to come. This would not have been possible without you!”

Feed the Students
Funded Dec 8, 2021On December 8, 2021, my project "Feed the Students" got fully funded! I was beyond excited to receive this wonderful news. Items received from this project included a mini fridge, a microwave, microwave stand, fruit snacks and Lysol spray. These resources will allow the students who eat lunch in my classroom to store their lunch in the fridge during the morning and heat it up at lunch time. There is no where else in the school where they would be allowed to do this. I am happy that I am now the place they can come to enjoy a warm meal.
When the items arrived in my classroom, the students were very surprised. They were unaware that the project got funded. Once I told them that this was all made possible due to the handful of generous donors on Donors Choose, they were quite thankful. One even stated, "I didn't know there were still nice people out there."
Receiving these items will definitely impact my current students as well as future students. Being able to provide these resources as well as a quiet space to enjoy their lunch will allow students to nourish themselves and their minds. This is again all thanks to you all!”

Funded Sep 23, 2021On September 28, 2021 my project "Everything Lasts Longer Laminated" got funded. I was over the top excited! I could not believe it. I was not expecting one of my new projects to get funded so quickly. Luckily that day our school was included in a special match offer promotion. Thanks to the multiple donors and the match day event I was able to get it funded all in one day!
When teaching General Art, there are many handouts and paper resources I use to teach each unit. Things like face and body proportion as well as perspective are just a few units that require paper handouts to help students see accurate elements that need to be taken account for when learning these topics. Having a laminator will ultimately prolong the use of these resources.
Once received, I will then be able to laminate many of my teaching handouts and exercises to use in multiple classes for multiple years to come. This will eliminate mass printing on paper and paper waste when these become old and worn. I can also now laminate many of my educational posters that I use for different art units as well as ones that will be hung on the wall. This would not be possible without all of you! Thank you again.”
