  • Glue, Glue and More Glue!

    Funded Jan 22, 2024

On January 22, 2024, I was over the moon excited to find my Donors Choose project, "Glue, Glue and More Glue!" had gotten fully funded! This was a project I had posted back in September. We began the school year without any supplies being ordered. After finally getting them in months later, I came to find there was no glue ordered.

Teaching a three-dimensional art course we use a lot of glue! For months we struggled sharing eight bottles a student had brought in to donate to our class. Those were then shared amongst my three classes. Now thanks to your generous donation we will be able to finish out the end of the semester strong and have a fresh supply for the start of a new semester in a few weeks!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Seervai

  • Plant a Seed and Watch It Grow

    Funded Sep 6, 2023

On September 6, 2023, I was excited to find my Donors Choose project, "Plant a Seed and Watch it Grow" had gotten fully funded! In this project, I had requested soil, gloves, garden tools, seed starter pots and a small green house for our schools Horticultural Club. This is my first year running the club and we are starting from scratch! After five years of being in our new building, no one has taken on this club until me.

My goal with this project was to have the basics to start the club and to have tools and supplies that can be used in the club in the future years. We are having out first meeting next month and students are excited! Thanks to you we are able to get this club started off on the right foot!”

  • A Place to Store Their Clay Projects

    Funded Sep 6, 2023

On September 6, 2023 I was excited to find my Donors Choose project, "A Place to Store Their Clay Projects" had gotten fully funded! With the start of a new school year, my three courses of Crafts and Ceramics 1 were maxed out at 24 students each one even had 25. Projects for this course were previously laid on the floor around the room in different spots to separate each class. Receiving these storage cubbies just in time for the new school year has been a game changer!

Once the supplies arrived and I explained to the students what they were, they seemed excited. A handful of students even volunteered to help build them with me. Once built, they were then stacked against the wall in the back of the room and students placed a name tag on one they claimed for the semester. This is the first time in nine years where students have not "lost their project" or told me "someone stepped on my project." I have never been so grateful. This is all thanks to you.”

  • Stamp It and Roll It

    Funded Mar 23, 2023

On March 23, 2023, I was excited to find my DonorsChoose project "Stamp It and Roll It" had gotten fully funded. I was even more ecstatic to find that the supplies ordered had arrived just in time for our ceramics unit! Students were excited to see all of the new textures and designs they could roll into their clay to complete the characteristics they needed for their projects.

The specific project they were working on was to recreate a famous room. This could be from a room from a painting, tv show, movie, cartoon or video game. Having the texture rollers allowed them to create proper floors, walls and other details. They were also able to write the room name and where it originated on the back with the small letter stamps. All of my students were able to take advantage of these supplies right away and many students for years to come will all get to use these tools thanks to you and your generous donation.”

  • Storage for Yarn and Paper

    Funded Mar 23, 2023

On March 23, 2023, I was delighted to find that my DonorsChoose project "Storage for Yarn and Paper" had gotten fully funded! One of the first things I put together were the cardboard shelves and rolling cart of drawers, which now store various types of paper the students can help themselves to at anytime. When they first seen this, they were very surprised and excited that they could now go help them selves to free draw paper, scrap paper, etc. at any time they wished.

Additionally, the storage containers for yarn have made quite the impact as well. Having clear storage containers to store yarn in has been a tremendous help! Students can now easily identify where the color yarn they need is located and go right in and take it. Before this they would rummage through three cardboard boxes leaving many of the spools tangled. Thanks to you the paper and yarn in my classroom is more organized and student accessible. I can't thank you enough.”

  • Keep Our Classroom Clean

    Funded Mar 23, 2023

On March 23, 2023, I was surprised to find my Donors Choose project "Keep Our Classroom Clean" had gotten fully funded. In this project I had requested six table sweepers, a vacuum, broom and dust pan to help with clean up in my art classroom. Before this, students only had access to paper towels and water to clean off their work spaces.

Once these items arrived, students were excited. There were enough table sweepers for one student at each table to grab one and sweep the eraser dust from their tables at the end of class. One student even volunteered to sweep the floor and vacuum!

Having these items will not only benefit us this semester but for years to come and its all thanks to you!”

  • Iron It Out

    Funded Feb 3, 2023

On February 3, 2023, I was excited to find my Donors Choose project "Iron it Out" had gotten fully funded. In this project I requested a handful of irons and blow dryers. During the fiber arts unit in my Crafts and Ceramics 1 course, students dye fabric and make small pillows. After the dye is washed out, the fabric becomes wrinkled and no longer straight edged which presents a struggle for students to sew in a straight line. Having the irons will allow for multiple students to iron their fabric at the same time to flatten their fabric back to a perfect square shape.

Additionally, students in my Crafts and Ceramics 1 and 2 courses endure a half semester long ceramics unit. Some projects require dry time before cutting out and assembling. Having a class set of blow dryers will allow for the students to dry out their clay faster to allow a shorter amount of time between drying out and assembling. We may now have time to create additional projects with this extra time! This all would not be possible without the generous donations from the wonderful donors of this project.”

  • Tools and Supplies for Stained Glass Art

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

On November 29, 2022 I was excited to find my project "Tools and Supplies for Stained Glass Art" had gotten fully funded. Supplies for this unit can not be purchased through school vendors so when I am in need of those supplies I always know I can rely on my Donors Choose supporters to help get what we need!

Supplies purchased for this project included glass nippers/scissors, extension cords, and acid brushes to apply the flux. Before this, my classes of twenty-four students had to share twelve pairs of glass scissors two of which broke at the end of the last school year. We now have six new pairs which will allow for more students to cut glass at the same time. Again this would not be possible without your generous support.”

  • Tools and Supplies for Painting Murals

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

On September 20, 2022, I was excited to find my project "Tools and Supplies for Painting Murals" had gotten fully funded! This was one of my bigger projects which I was over the moon excited to see when all of the supplies began to arrive. Last year was the first year that we were allowed to begin painting the blank walls of our newly built school. After beginning a mural with Art Club and limited supplies, we quickly realized what was needed to ensure a successful large scale group mural.

Thanks to your generous donations, we received a large ladder, a step ladder, two fans, paint brushes and palettes. We learned quickly that one ladder with twelve students was inefficient. We will now be able to have three people working on higher level spaces while the rest can work on the mid to low areas. This would not be possible without you all.”

  • Let's Shred!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

On September 20, 2022, I was delighted to find my project "Let's Shred" got fully funded! In that project, I requested a paper shredder, two folding tables to put supplies on and four stretchable table cloths to cover them to be used for our paper arts unit. In the past, I've had to use my paper cutter to manually slice hundreds of strips of paper for our paper quilling project. This would lead to inconsistent sized strips which could make a students project appear uneven.

Thanks to you all, I now have a paper shredder which can cut even strips of paper, using multiple papers at a time! So much prep time will be saved! I can then use the tables to lay out the different colored strips so students can go up and take what color they need instead of sifting through a container of mixed colors and sizes. Again, this would not be possible without you all.”

    Mrs. Seervai

I have three classes of crafts and ceramics I, two classes of crafts and ceramics II and general art I this school year with about 24 students in each class. The school is located in a low income area where poverty, hunger and housing is an issue. Although my students are faced with these challenges, they channel out their demographics and focus on expressing themselves through the production of 2D and 3D art.
