The freedom of choice is something that allows each person to feel powerful and engaged in what they are doing. From choosing a seat at a coffee shop, to a favorite spot on the couch, when a person feels most comfortable, they are more able to get things done. With the amount of different learning styles that are present in any school system, my class is high energy and easily distracted. I have many students who stand while they work, some that enjoy working on the floor, and even some that like to kneel. The freedom to choose where they want to sit and how they want to sit gives them ownership of their learning and allows them to feel their best as they work. My students will be able to use the wobble stools to do their best work at school. These stools will increase ownership by allowing my students to be present in choosing where and how they will work. With ownership, comes increased engagement that students will be able to sit and work in a way that makes them most comfortable. The clipboards will be used in a variety of ways. Most commonly, as a sturdy surface for carpet use, and as a flexible seating choice. Any and all of these choices will increase the engagement and learning of my students this school year and years to come.
