  • Listening for Reading Skills

    Funded Jul 16, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I cannot begin to describe the impact you have made in our classroom! Our scholars were elated to see those big boxes filled to the brim with brand new texts, Cd's, and headphones. Each Monday they come into the classroom eager to see which new book has been picked for the week, and every day they are excited to see who gets to go to our new listening center.

They have been reading and listening to classics that have brought their excitement for books to a new level. We recently started listening to the non-fiction texts and I've had several scholars comment and ask questions on the new facts they have learned about dinosaurs and ponies. They LOVE it!

Every single reader, no matter what level, has been able to have access to these books, increasing their knowledge and reading skills in a fun and meaningful way. You have helped to engage these young learners and spark their curiosity for reading, a skill that will continue to enhance their lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your caring generosity, it has made such a difference in our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Arnold

  • Growing our Brains, One Book at a Time!

    Funded Nov 10, 2014

My students were beyond thrilled when they unwrapped our bookshelf filled with new books! They were eager to begin reading right away and had a new excitement for going to our reading center. Each student has their name written in the color of books that is at their level, and each book is labeled making it easy for them to put away, and easy for me to keep organized.

The best moment came when I had stepped out of the classroom and came back in to find some of our lower readers at the reading center. I was curious to see how they were doing with the new books, but before I could even check a scholar ran up to me and shouted out "Mrs. Arnold!! I can read this!!!" That was the biggest gift in the world. She was successfully reading on her own thanks to the leveled readers, and her confidence was sky-high.

Our reading center is no longer a source of frustration, but enjoyment! Students sit down with their book and a book report, and because the books are on their level they are able to comprehend the stories and write about them instead of struggling through. They are excited to pick out their own books and are eager to share their newly found reading skills.

Your donation has made such an incredible impact in our classroom and with our students. You have truly boosted literacy within these children and helped to lay the foundation of their education. Thank you all for your support and generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Arnold

Our scholars have a wide range of reading abilities which we want to encourage and develop upon entering Kindergarten. They are extremely curious and ready to learn! The students at my school are incredibly energetic, passionate, and caring towards one another. We have a strong classroom culture in which everyone is welcomed and all accomplishments are celebrated! Many of our scholars come from low-income households where supplies are limited at home. We believe that the road to college begins in Kindergarten. Our school provides free breakfasts and lunches, as well as many other resources. Students at our school are exceptionally supported through our challenging and personalized curriculum, and we nurture our parents' involvement in their child's education. My kids are exceedingly thirsty for knowledge and always searching for new things to learn!
