  • Not Bits and Pieces, But Just Bits.

    Funded Nov 21, 2017

I want to begin by thanking you for your incredibly generous gift to our project. Your support is very appreciated.

Drill bits may not appear to be as elegant as an infrared sensor or as flashy as a light kit. For a robotics team; however, getting new tools is like a child getting a new toy on their birthday. Our lead mechanical student actually exclaimed, "Oh God! They are so beautiful! Look at them! All shiny and new!" Another one of our mechanical students was ecstatic that the bits were organized in an index. It has been so long since we've received any new tools that none of the current students on the team has seen any in our lab.

Our build season begins on January 6, 2018. This is when the nature of the game is released and we begin the robot build in earnest. From the construction of several prototypes to the production of the competition robot, thousands of holes will need to be drilled and re-drilled. The drill bits that your donations purchased will be used many times over.

Our robotics team is very grateful for your interest in our project and your very generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Johnson

  • Shock My Students

    Funded Jul 28, 2008

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation. Your gift of the six electrophorus kits for my students will be welcomed addition to our laboratory equipment. I have a limited number of “hands-on” materials, especially for electricity. As a topic, electricity can be difficult for some students to grasp; with your donation, they will be able to see the interactions between electrostatic charges and matter. Again, thank you so very much for your kind donation.

    Sincerely,

    Alan J

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Johnson

I was the physics teacher for Fort Dorchester High School when I became the faculty advisor for a FIRST Robotics Team. Our team is rather eclectic, being made of students from Fort Dorchester and home schooled students. Although the team's focus is building a robot; members are also involved with promoting STEM via social media, community outreach, and mentoring several elementary robotics teams. Students leave high school and enter engineering, software, animation, and liberal arts programs at four year colleges and universities. A number of our members also join the military.
