  • Getting Organized

    Funded May 2, 2012

I want to thank each and everyone of you for making this project a success! If it wasn't for your contributions, my students would not have a place to put all of their fashion design supplies.

As you can see from the pictures, they were able to use the big round containers to put all of the rolls of fabric. The small ones to place small items such as buttons, zippers, thread, even scissors, pins and needles.

My students did an amazing job of organizing our classroom. Everything is in order and they have learned that without organization, everything will be chaotic, and when you're surrounded by chaos you don't meet deadlines or even finish projects.

Thank you all again for what you have given my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jimenez

  • Clean and Fresh

    Funded Feb 10, 2012

I want to express my appreciation for your generosity in support of my project to get a washer and dryer for my school. Your personal commitment was incredibly helpful and allowed us to reach our goal. Your assistance means so much to me but even more to my students. Please know how much you've helped our students and how much we all appreciate it.

We have started to use the washer and dryer. The uniforms are cleaned daily and the students are happy to be wearing clean shirts and pants. Our Athletic Director has even started to clean the sports uniforms in house as well! Thank you and I hope you know that through your generosity, the lives of our students have been so very positively impacted!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jimenez

  • Sewing Helps Us All

    Funded Mar 18, 2012

Thank you for the monetary donation to DonorsChoose.org. My students and I are very grateful for the donation. We will use the sewing machines purchased through DonorsChoose.org in our arts educational programming.

My school believes children can learn authentically by using authentic resources. That is why I am so thankful for the sewing machines that my school received. My students have started making dresses for toddlers and our next project includes pajama pants and a dress for themselves.

Thank you again for your generosity. Donations such as yours are necessary for the growth and sustenance of schools such as mine.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jimenez

  • Creating with Dress Forms

    Funded May 17, 2011

I would like to thank all of you for the wonderful donations you gave to make my classroom's project a success. I received the four dress forms last May and started using them in class this September.

My students are so eager to come to class every week (unfortunately my class does not meet everyday) because they love to create garments on the new dress forms. They like that the dress forms have adjustable knobs so that they can make clothes to fit them. They are currently working on draping their own princess-line dresses. When they are done, I will teach them how do create a pencil skirt.

Draping and sewing go hand in hand since you cannot wear a draped garment until it has been sewn together and they are learning how to do both in my class. The skills that they learn in classes such as mine are going to stay with them for the rest of their lives, that's why art programs in the schools are so important. If it wasn't for the support from people like all of you, my students would not get to feel the joy of creating their own clothes.

    Thank you kindly!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jimenez

  • Sewing for a Dream

    Funded Apr 2, 2011

I would like to personally thank you all for donating to my classroom's project. My students have been using the sewing machines for a couple of weeks now. They no longer have to wait to take turns, thus they are finishing their projects quicker. The machines are fully functional and durable, which will allow us to use them for future classes.

The goal of my fashion design class is to continue to make a difference in student's lives through hands-on experience with fabric and design. My students are creating the handbags and skirts we've been working on in class using the new sewing machines.

With the help of donations from supporters such as you I will continue to see my students' love for design grow.

Thanks again for your generous donation to my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jimenez

They show an interest in fashion design but are struggling because they have no resources at their fingertips. They are hungry for knowledge and the best way in my opinion to learn is through experience. The neighborhood they come from is one that lacks finances to provide them with opportunities and that's what I'm trying to give them... the chance to create through art and design.
