Making Art for the Community
Funded Jan 9, 2024Thank you so much for contributing to the completion of this project. Your support means the world to use and has made a significant impact on our ability to provide quality art supplies to my students. My students were so excited to receive these art supplies and to create the mural for our Founders' Day celebration. We have also been able to use some of the extra balloons not used for Founders' Day to celebrate winter. We threw a Winter Wonderland dance and students created a beautiful design as a backdrop. We have been able to inspire creativity and foster artistic expression with the use of these art supplies.
Thank you again!”

Funded Oct 23, 2023My students were overwhelmed with gratitude once they saw all of the snacks that your contributions helped fund. Your generosity has had a profound impact on my students and our school community as a whole. In a time where many of students face economic challenges and food insecurity, your contributions have helped alleviate their worries about where their next meal will come from. This project was not just about snacks; it was about fostering equity in our classrooms and ensuring that our students have the opportunity to learn and thrive without the burden of hunger.
Your kindness ensures that our high schoolers, who face the challenge of a late lunch period, can focus on their studies and be their most curious and creative selves throughout the day. These snacks have become a source of comfort and sustenance for those experiencing difficulties, allowing them to concentrate on their education rather than their empty stomachs. Your support has transformed the learning experience for our students, and we cannot thank you enough for making it possible. Your generosity has made our school a better and more equitable place, and for that, we are truly grateful. Thank you for believing in our mission and for being a beacon of hope in our students' lives.”

Funded Mar 25, 2023Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You have made my after school fitness club a success! Since it is an after school club and my students have lunch so early 10:20 or 11:10, these snacks, such as the Mott's Fruit Snacks, Nature Valley granola bars, GoGo squeeZ applesauce, and Quaker Chewy granola bars, give my students the energy needed to work out.
The students were so excited when I told them that we now had snacks! They loved all of them! We are trying to have them last until the end of the year. We are looking forward to our final projects of the year in all of my classes and all of my students will be nourished because of the snacks.
We are so grateful!”

Funded Jan 25, 2023Thank you for helping my students receive art supplies such as canvases, paint brushes, cups, tablecloths, and pencils. Originally, I requested these items to complete a Halloween project for my class. Although we did not receive these art supplies in time to complete our STEAM project, we used these items to reflect on our journey at my school. They then chose a bright spot from their journey lines to paint for our mural. I still have several items leftover and hope to use them for our final unit on technology use. Students will choose one technology, paint it, and explain how it has evolved over time and how that has contributed to globalization.
Your contributions made it possible for my students to have such experiences.”

Funded Jan 21, 2023Thank you so much for providing my students with snacks! We have completed the PBATs, our graduation level requirements essays in history! The snacks that you all helped fund have nourished my students throughout the research process and writing of the essays. These essays are very time consuming. The whole process takes close to two months. The snacks kept my students focused on their task.
When the students first saw the snacks, it was like a feeding frenzy! The kids were so excited and that excitement helped fuel their research, reading, and writing abilities.
We are so thankful for each and every one of you for helping us write these graduation requirement essays!”

Funded Oct 18, 2022In our class, access to Blue Books has changed the way students research! Students have been able to have a space where they keep all of their research notes about a topic. This has been useful because it allows them to keep all of their thinking in one place. Specifically, students have been completing research projects about the social movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Students have been able to keep all of their research notes in their Blue Books for this project.
When students first saw their Blue Books, they were very excited to have received a brand new notebook that was just for them! Throughout the process of researching, students have been able to make their notebooks their own and keep track of all the brilliant ideas they have about these topics.
As students complete the research process, they will eventually use the notes they took in their Blue Books to come up with a research question and thesis about the historical time period they are studying. This thesis will turn into the basis of a research paper that they must produce to achieve one of their graduation requirements: writing and presenting a research paper. As students write their papers, they will refer to the notes they took in their Blue Books for evidence and inspiration.”

Funded Dec 3, 2014My students are so grateful to have these books to start our debate club. We have received them and have started to implement the strategies.
Research shows that debate-trained students submit arguments that mention the claims of both or several points of view. Because they have used these strategies, they are now better at figuring out what new data would help resolve the issue. They have learned collaboration and how to work together as a team. My students have become more successful in debate. They are creative thinkers and effective communicators. I am also using these strategies for my Model United Nations Club!
Like competitive sports, debate teams make school more engaging and challenging. My students are excited about coming to school. Especially on Tuesdays, since that is when we have our meetings.
Thank you again for your donations.”

Funded Nov 11, 2014I would like to sincerely thank you for your generous contributions. Because of those donations, we made it to Berlin!
While in Berlin, we visited the Berlin Wall memorial, the Holocaust Memorial, the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag building (where Parliament is held) and Check Point Charlie. The students had a great time sight seeing, but an even better time at the conference!
We represented the country of Kenya this year during the Berlin Model United Nations conference. MUN conferences afford students an understanding of how the process of international debate and negotiation that we call diplomacy functions in an interactive fashion. MUN makes for informed global citizens who not only understand the decisions their nation makes but also how those changes effect politics in their communities, their nations and the world.
My students represented several committees including the Political and Human Rights Committees, which tries to convince the delegates of the governments in attendance to recognize the rights of their citizens and establish international awareness of human rights violations. They asked great questions during their committee meetings and voted on some great resolutions. Some of them even passed the resolutions they were lobbying for.
You made these experiences and this trip possible. Thank you again.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jimenez
Model United Nations Club goes to Berlin Again!
Funded Oct 29, 2013I would like to thank you all for your donations to this project. Your generosity in giving, as you know, made it possible for eight students from an impoverished neighborhood in New York City to attend the 2013 Berlin Model United Nations at John F. Kennedy High School in Berlin, Germany. The exposure and the influence gained through the experience has been life changing for all. The travel experience was surreal and the debates were educating.
During the trip, we were able to experience the culture and traditions as well as overall lifestyle of the Germans during the course of the sightseeing aspects of the trip. We visited several museums that educated us on the history of the country. We also went to the Berlin TV Tower and experienced the 360 degree view of Berlin from the dome on top of the Reichstag Building, which is where Parliament is held.
The BERMUN conference benefited my students by exposing them to intelligent students from all over the world. Different debating abilities were featured and being fairly new to formal debating world, they were able to learn a lot from them. They were able to make friends and acquire connections that could possibly last them a lifetime.
This trip means the world to my students. It motivates me to continue my work as the MUN director at my school. It is so good to work hard for something and something that helps make a difference. My students were so humbled and grateful for the experience that your donations supported.
Once again, thank you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jimenez
Model United Nations Goes to Berlin
Funded Oct 15, 2012Thank you for making my students' dreams a reality. We all had a really amazing time in Berlin and at the 2012 BERMUN conference. The theme of the conference was "Media Without Boundaries: Solving or Creating Problems". There, my students represented the country of Cuba.
Before the conference started, we went sight-seeing. We visited the Berliner Dom, The Reichstag building (their Parliament building), the Brandenburg Gate, and visited some authentic German restaurants among other things. At the conference, they learned how to debate on the topics of human rights, politics, disarmament and the environment as Cubans of course. Two students also participated in the Youth Assembly, where they talked about bullying in schools and domestic violence. They were amazed by the different cultures that were represented at the conference, since there were students present from all over the world. One of the students is even begging me to return next year.
We all had a great time and we are so greatful to each and everyone of you for your generous donations!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jimenez
