Crafting English and Art Connections
Funded Sep 30, 2022My students felt so blessed with your generations donations for this project. If you recall, the intent of the project was to include art skills within our E.L.A. block. The main reason for the creation of this project was to serve as a more meaningful, engaging avenue to learn about the unit topics from our E.L.A. curriculum. So far, the students have mainly used the sketch pads and pencils for multiple projects. The biggest project so far in our classroom in which we utilized the materials was in connection with our Fall carnival. The students and I opted to develop a gift basket to be auctioned off in order to raise money for the school. The students used the materials to create and build a multitude of artifacts which were gifted within the basket. The students thoroughly enjoyed this project and were very proud of their accomplishments. While this was definitely a meaningful project, the bulk of the materials will be utilized in our upcoming unit on "Diversity". The students will be able to explore the concepts of diversity, inclusion, and unity throughout this unit. I am unsure at this time of my specific intentions with the materials in relation to the upcoming unit, but I did request materials that promote these concepts to be used with my students. This is usually the favorite unit of the year for E.L.A. and I'm sure that it will be the best one yet with these amazing contributions!”

All I Need Is a Good Book
Funded Jun 21, 2022Thank you so very much for y our generous donations that made this project possible. As you may remember, the intent on the project was to update my classroom library so that my students might be engaged during independent reading times, while being exposed to a wide variety of genres and literature. Your contributions allowed for me to prepare my library before school started so that it was ready to go when the kids walked into my fourth-grade classroom. We have daily guided reading instruction at my school and part of their independent work is to read a a physical book for about a 20-minute period. I often have to quiet them down from trying to share their book with a neighbor because they love these texts so much and want to discuss them! This is definitely a positive problem to have and they are as engaged as I had hoped when I created this project. Aside from just independent reading, I was able to obtain new books for read aloud time in my classroom which I try to fit in every day at snack time. These new books not only allow me to spiral review reading strategies for students, but they also allow us to learn how to be better humans through these stories. Currently we are reading a book from this project that is about a girl with special needs and her point of view in regards to her frustrations in her life. We are so thankful for each of you!”
