Almost Like Our Classroom!
Funded Aug 18, 2020Thank you for your generous help in starting our school year off with everything we needed! With your support, we were able to provide students with their math and writing notebooks and whiteboards, pens, and erasers. We also gave each student a copy of the novel that we are reading aloud, The One and Only Ivan.
The students were amazed to see the outpouring of kindness from you and other members of our community when they came to pick up a very full bag of supplies! We all know what it is like to have brand new school supplies to start off a school year. Given how many of the parents are truly struggling because of COVID, most students would have been left wanting and unprepared for distance learning. We gave them everything they needed!
The One and Only Ivan is always our second read-aloud novel in 4th grade. It tells a story of perseverance, hope, and taking action when you see a need. A perfect story for these times!
I hope the holidays bring you a deep feeling of peace and love this year, you definitely deserve it!”

Books in the Hands of Our Students!
Funded Sep 14, 2020I feel deeply grateful for your generous donations. Our students now have a library of brand new books in their own homes!
Distance Learning is hard. Really, really hard. At this point the students have been staying at home since mid-March. Some have read every book available, some rely on weekly visits to the school library to acquire books. Most have improved in their reading level and have no books to challenge them. They are bored and anxious and a book is an excellent escape. They want to push themselves and become better readers.
Thanks to you, I was able to curate a collection of about ten to fifteen books for each student. They received books at their own reading level, plus a few at the next level above. Every book was based on something they are interested in, a story of perseverance, or presented a different culture and experience than their own.
With these books, they can continue their efforts to become accomplished readers. They can foster their love of reading. Even Maya, who "hates books and reading," has shared that she is reading them daily. Victory! Students have been sharing what they are reading and what they love about the books.
Thank you for providing these magnificent students the opportunity to escape into a book and grow as lifelong readers. You have truly made a difference!”

Hands-on Science Lab Materials
Funded Oct 5, 2010I am writing to express the gratitude that my students and I have for your kind donation to our classroom.
Your donation allowed our students to fully explore and comprehend geology in a concrete, hands on way. All of the materials brought out their wonder and curiosity. For example, they "oohed" and "ahhed" at the rock samples at first, then dug right in to investigating. The samples your helped provide are much larger than the usual sets classrooms have, thus they can really see the details of each type of rock. Quickly, observations and questions were filling the air. I cannot begin to describe the high academic level of the discussions they were having with each other. I can express my deepest thanks for the joy and pride I felt sharing in those discussions. It is what we as teachers hope for!
More profound was the impact of receiving the science supplies from complete strangers. I took the time to explain how we came to receive the materials. They were all puzzled at first, asking "Why would they give us things if they don't even know us?" As teachers, we can try to describe to them how they are a part of their community, the country, and the world. It was through your donation that they witnessed first hand how all adults want kids to be as smart as they possibly could be. They were truly touched and stand a bit taller now. :)
Thank you for providing engaging learning opportunities to our students as well as the knowledge that everyone out there cares about them. My heart swelled at every donation, and even more when the materials were in the students' hands. Individuals like you keep optimism and kindness alive and well!”
With gratitude,
Ms. OBrien
