WE ALL NEED MUSIC! It hurts me to hear parents and educators question why we need music in our schools. Music feeds the soul. Music helps us with our emotions. Music unlocks parts of the brain that NOTHING ELSE CAN. In my material list, I have music books that will be used for my quiet corner and centers, small erasers that will be used for rewards and manipulatives for learning rhythms, sit spots for centers and to help the little ones know where to sit, a fun sized piano that has to be stepped on the be played (yay for movement!), dry erase pockets to lower the amount of paper being printed, organizer bins, and double sided dry erase boards for promote participation when answering questions about music. Music appreciation starts with music teachers making a difference in children's lives. Playing an instrument through the school years promotes better learning in a lot of subject areas as well as increasing a child's IQ. Music requires so much discipline, multitasking, and teamwork to be successful. It is all of the subjects in one! We talk about culture, science, math, history, and much more. I'm so blessed and excited to be part of such a great area of life.
