  • Dear Stress, Let's Break Up!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you all again for helping my students with our project. As you all know these past few years have been difficult. My students have had to deal with many situations and some harder than others. With your contributions you have helped me make a de-stress corner for the students. A place where they can feel at ease and comfortable.

When I first talked about the project with my students, they were happy. They helped choose the area, and how they wanted it to look. That also made them happy, however when the materials started to come in they started getting excited. I guess it was becoming a reality for them.

The destress corner is now complete and the students are able to use it as they please. They can go into the area when they are feeling overwhelmed or just need some quiet time. The are is equipped with positive words, books, and games. The students are able to do any of those things or they may choose to just sit alone or close their eyes. They can also use the Ipads. The area is basically a "chill out" area and we are so grateful that we can have such an area. Thank you is not enough for what you have done for us!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gonzalez

  • Art Expressions

    Funded May 2, 2020

My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for donating to our donors choose project, "Art Expressions". We are truly thankful and we were so surprised that the project was funded so fast. The students were really excited when they received their portion of the supplies.

As you know this year has been exceptionally different. My students were scared and confused when they weren't able to come back into the school. I wanted my students to continue to get the same education and fun school experience even though they were learning remotely. My students are special and they learn differently. They need materials to help them both learn and retain information. At the end of a lesson or a unit plan we do art activities. When they do hands-on activities they are able to take control of their own learning. They are able to relate to the information they learned.

This summer, my students learned about Egypt. The students liked learning about the pyramids. At the end of the unit they drew pyramids, they made a desert, and they were able to make their favorite desert animal. The students were also able to shape the pipe cleaners into triangles to form pyramids. They used the eyes to make animals, they used the markers/colored pencils to draw. The students were able to tell stories about what they made with their art projects. That was amazing to watch because my students were able to express themselves though art.

I will continue to encourage my students to express themselves though art! Thank you again. We are forever grateful for your kindness!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gonzalez

  • Yackity Yack News

    Funded Jan 4, 2015

I would like to extend a big thank you to all those that believed in my students enough to donate to our class project. I am in awe of you because some of you have never met my students but yet you chose to give them a chance, and some just know that my students are able to accomplish their dreams with a little help. Thank you from the bottom of my students and my heart!

When we received the video camera my students were excited because they knew that this was going to change how we report the news. Prior to getting the video camera our students would record the news from a small digital camera. That didn't really give them the feel of being reporters nor did the students recording feel like real camera persons. They felt that anyone could do that but with the video camera they are able to feel as if they are really reporting the news and my camera people are proud to work behind the camera.

I have a student who isn't able to express herself verbally and usually gets frustrated when she can't get her point across. I've tried different methods with her and nothing has worked. One day we were going over the weather before recording it, so the students where just discussing and practicing how they would say it into the camera when all of a sudden she says. "my turn". I look her way and she reaches for the mic (fake one) and starts looking into the camera and starts describing the weather. She said that it was windy and cold out and that you needed to wear a coat and a scarf. She was really proud of herself but then she saw herself on the smart board she really lit up. She had the biggest smile on her face. It really felt good to see her so happy and so proud of her work. She continues to tell her piece of the weather and is getting better and better at it. This has helped her to feel comfortable communicating with her peers and expressing her feelings.

Other students have different jobs. They conduct interviews, they cover events that are happening in the school, and then they get to post their work in the school television and school website so that everyone can see their work. The video camera has helped my students communicate, be more involved, and socialize with their peers.

The video camera has made such an impact in teaching my students because they are so confident in themselves that they are willing to try and reach further than they have before. It's truly amazing to watch their success take flight.

    I truly thank you all!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gonzalez

  • Let's Learn Photoshop

    Funded Feb 12, 2011

My students and I are so thankful for your kind donations. It is because of people like you that my students are able to excel in school. The card readers that were donated by your kindness help my students in photography class. They are learning how to take multiple pictures and write stories about the images. They also are learning how to place the pictures in sequential order. My students are special needs and many of them learn most effectively when using visual cues. They also need repetition so that they can remember steps in taking pictures. The card readers allows them to keep or delete the pictures which is good because the more they repeat a step the more they will learn how to manipulate pictures.

Thank you all once again for all your kindness and believing in my students. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

  • Picture Perfect Learning

    Funded Dec 25, 2010

I want to express my thanks for your generosity in the support of my classroom project. Your help means so much to me but even more to my students who benefited from your generosity.

Your gift of the cameras has impacted them in many ways. They are increasing their communication skills, learning the importance of working as a team, and learning how to be responsible young adults.

I would've never accomplished these goals if it wasn't for kind people like you. Thanks for being a friend. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gonzalez

I enjoy teaching special needs students and the best feeling in the world is when they get and understand what you're teaching them, it may take them a bit longer than general education students but they get it. They need the extra help and if we work toghether they will succeed. Thank you for considering our project.
