I teach 85 5th grade students in southern Mississippi at a transition school. We only have 5th and 6th graders, and one task we have is to get students ready for middle school. They are in the awkward stage of not being the baby, but not quite big enough either. Nonetheless, all of my students have amazing personalities. They make my day with their quirkiness and charisma to learn. About one-third of my students are English Language Learners (ELL), and the language barrier makes learning concepts twice as difficult. I also have several students living at or below the poverty line. Although we have many setbacks, the drive of my students is unbelievable. They want success to happen for them, and they are willing to work for it.
