  • Prolific Writers Need Pencils!

    Funded Apr 13, 2013

Thank you so very much for your generous support of my blossoming writers! My 3rd graders were absolutely thrilled to receive the giant box of high-quality pencils (they were super impressed to discover that the pencils were pre-sharpened!)!. We now have plenty of pencils, which makes the writing process so much smoother and more fun!

We recently completed a research project on Milan, Italy for an annual event at our school called Travel the World Day. My students spent several weeks researching Milan, writing expert books all about history, geography, and culture, and decorating our classroom with artwork. The pencils were absolutely instrumental in this process! We literally could not have done it without you!

    Many thanks!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reininga

  • Let's Hit the Ground Reading

    Funded Dec 12, 2012

To quote one of Class 302's favorite books, Lily's Purple Plastic Purse, by Kevin Henkes: "Wow! That is just about all I can say- WOW!". My kids and I are so thankful for your generous support! It means so much to know that you believe in my kids' ability to succeed as strongly as I do.

This amazing gift comes at an exciting time for Class 302. I just finished our second round of reading assessments and am happy to report that every student has grown at least one reading level in the last 6 weeks! Many students have grown 2 or even 3 reading levels! These wonderful new books will help my kids grow even more as readers and thinkers. The comfy cushions and sturdy book bags make independent reading even more fun.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reininga

  • We Have Brains In Our Heads & Feet In Our Shoes, But...

    Funded Feb 17, 2012

Thank you so very much for your generous support! Thanks to you, we now have bright, soft colorful rug and a speedy, quiet pencil sharpener. Our beautiful new classroom rug gives my kids a clean, comfy place to sit during read-alouds, mini-lessons, community meetings, and independent reading time. When we observe the results of a science experiment or learn a new math game we gather in a circle on the rug so that everyone can see and be engaged! Also, having access to a giant map of the world makes exploring world geography much more fun.

Having our own quick, nearly silent pencil sharpener really helps us maximize our learning time. We happily share with the other third grade classrooms in our hallway!

I am convinced of each and every one of my students' ability to succeed, despite what the statistics say. Your support clearly demonstrates that you believe in them too! Your generosity not only provides the resources necessary to make our classroom more comfortable, efficient, and conducive to learning, but also bolsters my kids' confidence and determination!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reininga

  • Third Grade: Here We Come!

    Funded Jun 12, 2011

Thank you so very much for your generous donations! My kids love the engaging learning materials you so kindly provided! When I submitted this project proposal last year, I was teaching a brilliant class of second graders who were already working hard to master the 2012 third grade ELA and Math state tests. This year, I have the great privilege of teaching the same group of enthusiastic, determined, hard-working kids as third graders! Because we were together last year, we hit the ground running in September, and this year is off to an awesome start!

The fun, challenging learning materials you donated enable my students to master many important ELA and math skills. According to the practice tests recently administered, our class is well on our way to meeting our goal of every student passing both state tests! Unfortunately, my kids live and learn in an environment poisoned by low expectations. I work hard every day to change that by empowering my kids to succeed! Your generous support proves that you believe in them, too!

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reininga

  • Voracious Readers Crave Books!

    Funded Nov 9, 2010

We love our new books! My students and I were thrilled to receive 6 sets of brand new books- enough for everyone to have several on their individual reading level. The Character Building Stories are perfect for supporting our New Year's Resolutions, and our daily read-aloud have sparked many wonderful conversations about how we can grow as kind, honest, respectful citizens. We're using the Multicultural Stories as part of our celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day this week, and Black History Month in February. The Environmental Awareness books will be a wonderful addition to our science unit on plants and our Earth Day projects in the spring. My kids and I are deeply touched by your vote of confidence- your generous donations prove that you believe in their ability to succeed as readers as strongly as I do!

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

  • Blossoming Readers Need Wireless Listening Center

    Funded Mar 31, 2010

Thank you so very much for funding our project! My kids and I were thrilled to receive the packages. I explained to them that the awesome new wireless listening center and bright, soft, inviting pillows are gifts from people who believe in them and want to support their learning. We are all deeply touched by your kindness and this enthusiastic vote of confidence!

My lowest readers (the majority of whom are English Language Learners) are benefiting enormously from using headphones to listen to recorded stories as they follow along. The beautiful, comfortable pillows allow kids to find quiet places to read all around the classroom and encourage buddy reading between high and low readers. You have made reading more fun and engaging, and we are better readers because of you!

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reininga

I am an Instructional Coach at a small STEM elementary school in Harlem where 32% of students are Special Education students, 17% are English Language Learners and 100% qualify to receive free school breakfast and lunch. School wide, only 18% of our students are on grade level in math, but we doubled the number of students meeting grade level standards from 2016 to 2017! We at STEM are convinced that when given the opportunity, our kids can and will be successful, no exceptions! Your generous support helps me prove to my kids that it is possible, and that you believe in them as fervently as I do!
