I hope your days are off to a wonderful start. Thank you so much for your generous donations. This rug and cushions will transform our shared learning space! Creating a comfortable, flexible and safe learning environment is a crucial part of delivering effective instruction and promoting student growth. We are so excited!”

  • Update, Refresh and Grow

    Funded Sep 12, 2019

I hope that you are well and are preparing to kick-off some rest, relaxation and time with loved ones in the coming weeks! You certainly deserve it.

My students and I have had a wonderful start to our 3rd grade year together. Many of our learning experiences and activities were strengthened or made possible through your generous donations.

Students have headphones to experience research firsthand, and to participate in a multitude of math (curriculum-aligned) internet programs. The graphic novels that were included in this Donors Choose project are the favorites in our room--kids eagerly await as peers finish one of the Wimpy Kid or Olympian texts.

Thank you for making the 2019 portion of our year together so special. Warm wishes in the new year!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Alex

  • 3rd Grade Newsies

    Funded Oct 11, 2018

I hope this note finds you well! We have completed half of our third grade year together, and continue to benefit from the engaging, relevant content of Time for Kids Magazines. Just this week, kids buddy-read the magazine, worked through activities and identified informational text features (as well as how each feature contributes to the text in a meaningful way).

The magazine subscription you funded, alongside independent readers and curriculum content, allows me to create weekly lesson plans and a year-long scope that exposes students to all grade-level standards while also fostering a love and appreciate of print and reading!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Alex

  • Kindness & Effort

    Funded Aug 21, 2018

I hope this note finds you well. I am happy to be able to reach out with a thank you in the season of giving. Your donation supported me in kick-starting a wonderful year of strong classroom community and meaningful writing assignments.

Texts about kindness and self-regulation have helped to provide ideas and thoughts to which my students and I can constantly return when needed.

Highlighters and dry-erase markers, in particular, have allowed students to both express (and later present) their daily thinking and color-code writing assignments to ensure a long explanation. Thank you! Happy holidays!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Alex

  • Access to Literature for All

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I hope this note finds you well. In the season of giving, I am thrilled to reach out to thank you again for the donation that you made towards my listening center and buddy reading/ listening library.

Students of all reading levels are able to access beloved chapter books and informational texts together during centers and choice time.

I am thrilled to be able to incorporate these materials for years to come, and to share the contents of each text with hundreds of third graders and many colleagues.”

  • City Chicks

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

Last week, my students and I visited our local science museum. They were captivated by the chicks hatching in the life science wing--and gazed in awe at the images that showed embryo development. Then...well, then they were on to the next thing, because that's what museums are for!

We won't hatch our little chicks until early spring, when I will be sure to post lots of updates and photos.

When the supplies purchased with your generous donations arrived at our school, the main office phoned my room through the intercom. We flocked ; ) to the office and lugged our boxes back to the room. The kids were beside themselves. We are so excited for spring learning...and I am grateful to be able to share this very special experience with cohorts of students to come!

Warm wishes until spring arrives! Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Alex

  • Time Tracker & Pencil Sharpener in Time for the Holidays?!

    Funded Jan 12, 2015

This morning, as I sat down at my desk to begin planning for first period (math), I checked my inbox to find a notification that my most recent Donors Choose project had been funded! I cannot express my excitement, and can barely begin to describe the smiles which will pour in from my students. I look forward to having the opportunity to thank you (with a little help from my third graders) in a more thoughtful manner in the near future (and as we begin to benefit from your generosity).

Stay warm and have a wonderful Monday.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Alex

My students represent a small piece of our city's public school population of 57,000 (128 schools), and they are eager to absorb knowledge while working to build social and emotional skills. Our school is community-focused and teachers and students work together to uphold principles of respect, unity and excellence. As a community (and grade-level team) teachers and administrators pour their hearts and soul into the full-bodied education of our K-5 student population. As a class, we represent a variety of learners and native-language speakers, and have focused much of the first weeks of school on developing respect and support for one another.
