Digital Dance
Funded Mar 10, 2016My students were so grateful. Literally, my students said: "Wow! Someone donated this to us?" "Now, we could work." and "People could be generous." However, more than saying, they created amazing props, and dresses for our annual Eco-Friendly Fashion Show. They were astonished that people cared enough to support them and their cause. Students used their imaginations to create a variety of props that not only portray their creativity but also the things they consider out of this world, since our theme this year is: "Out of this World." My students were engaged and totally excited to get to work and to make their sketches real. They were grateful that they were no limitations to make their creations at a real life scale.”

Funded Dec 31, 2013I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to all donors for providing my students and I with six microphones and microphone covers. Thanks to your donation, the students are able to voice their opinions in an artistic manner during many school events.
Due to your generosity, these microphones will allow students to add a new level of art at the Eco-Friendly Fashion Show. They will not only utilize their creative abilities but their musical talents as well. This donation is very crucial for my students because not only have they initiated this idea but they have also made it possible. Their enthusiasm about the new addition to the show arouse a motivation to make this years show full of possibilities and wonders.
Moreover, the students now have the materials to use for all of our events, allowing their voices and creativity to shine louder and more confidently than ever.”

Eco-Friendly Fashion Show
Funded Jun 12, 2013We are the Multicultural Club of The Young Women's Leadership School (TYWLS) of Astoria. Our club is composed of 16 young women from the 8th to 12th grade. Every year we host the Eco-Fashion Show, where students design and model creative dresses out of recyclable material. As the Multicultural Club, we decide the theme for the fashion show, design recyclable dresses to represent the club, and ensure the success of the event.
We would like to thank you for your contributions to the MFTA; without your donations our fashion show would not be made possible. With the materials you donated we are now able to create a beautiful set and stunning eco-friendly dresses, revolving around this year's theme: New York.
The purpose of our Eco-Friendly Fashion shows is to bring awareness to our community concerning global warming and how recycling is the first step to preserving our green planet. We chose the theme "New York" this year because it's a versatile topic; it's a hot pot of every single culture, ensuring that every single girl is able to show her personality and heritage. Our group together has decided that New York has always been a huge part of not only our school but of every girl that attends the TYWLS Network. We want our set to look like an authentic New York City street, and try to give our audience a taste of what New York means to us.
Your donated materials will cause our fashion show to be a huge success. With the money earned from the fashion show, we plan on accomplishing several goals such as organizing a scholarship titled TYWLSA for TYWLSA, which will help assist a student enrolled at our school in financial need to pay for college. We are a small club in a small school; our 12th graders are preparing themselves to be the second graduating class of our school. All of our girls are now forming their lists of dream colleges to attend, however, the issue of money is a common obstacle in determining whether or not these "dreams" become a reality. TYWLSA for TYWLSA will eliminate, or at least lessen the burden of the financial issue. We believe that forming a scholarship within our school for our students will be the idealistic solution.
Another goal is to feed imagination to all the students in the club. We need imaginative brains for the best of our future. The materials you donated to us will help imagination become something real.
We have high hopes that this year's Eco-Friendly Fashion Show will be even bigger and better than the years behind us. We strive to push the members of our club to think in bigger aspects this year. With all the new materials that have been provided for us, we know we can reach the goals we have made for each other.
We would like to thank you for your generosity. It is this that keeps our imagination working in a way where we could express more than just our feeling and ideas.”

The Multicultural Club would like to thank you for your contributions to the school; without your donations our fashion show would not be made possible, it wouldn't have come out as wonderful either. With the materials you donated the club members were able to create a beautiful set and stunning eco-friendly dresses, revolving around this year's theme. All these materials gave the set more life and impacted the audience as well as the performance.
With this event the club was able to bring awareness to our community concerning global warming and how recycling is the first step to preserving our green planet.
Also the club members saw how imagination took over all the students that participated on this event. Students need imaginative brains for the best of our future. The materials you donated to us helped imagination become something real.

Funded Mar 15, 2011I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to all donors for providing myself and the students of our school with a color printer. Thanks to your donation, the students were able to generate colorful and vibrant magazines in Spanish class.
The students utilized their Spanish vocabulary and grammar skills, paired with their natural creativity in order to produce a magazines filled with topics that were important to the community, our schools and their daily lives. The color printer gave the magazines created that extra hint of professional publishing quality that made the students feel enthusiastic about their work.
