All Students Deserve a Library
Funded Oct 4, 2024I cannot thank you enough for your donation to our school's library. Our school is an inner-city alternative school designed to help students who have been unsuccessful in traditional high school settings. Many of our students have experienced traumatic life circumstances, and our school is their last chance to graduate. Unfortunately, our school has not received many of the resources that traditional high schools have. For decades, our school has not had a library available to students.
This year, our district funded a librarian position for our school site, and we are creating a brand-new library space for our students. Your donation helped to put the first 100 books on the shelves of our new library space. Our students can feel the love that comes with having a safe, welcoming place on campus where they can find books that meet their interests and reflect their lived experiences. Your donation is directly impacting students lives and showing them how libraries can support their lives in the future.
Thank you so much for supporting me and my students as we build this essential space on our campus.”

Funded Oct 21, 2021I'm absolutely floored with how quickly my project was funded. I cannot thank you all enough for your donations that will help to bring high-interest books to my students! So many of my students struggle to find engaging books, and this project will help put great books in their hands!
Thank you so, so much for supporting teachers, and most importantly, for supporting my students!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Dollar General Literacy Foundation and 10 other donors.Reading Room
Funded Oct 10, 2012I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your donation to our reading intervention classes at my school. I work in a school that serves mostly low-income families, and many of my students don't know the excitement and value of reading a good book.
I teach many students who have never started or finished a novel, and in the class, many students are finishing books for the first time in their lives. The reading class is designed to give students a love of reading and help them to find value in reading so that they can be more successful in their other classes.
The chairs and carpet you have helped to purchase have given students the opportunity to curl up (during class) and enjoy a good book. The items you helped purchase allow students to leave the uncomfortable, hard desks that they spend most of the day in, and enter into world's of adventure and excitement through reading. Thank you again for your contribution to my students!”

Mrs. Braun
Learning to Love Literature
Funded Mar 25, 2011I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your contribution to my classroom. Your contribution has allowed my students to connect to literature in a new way by owning their own books, a luxury many of them have not experienced. My students used your gift for an independent reading assignment that allowed students to discuss the universal themes throughout the novel.
With budgets tight, your gift provided an opportunity to my students that otherwise they would have gone without. Receiving such a gift during these hard times helps to ensure that students are able to be successful despite the difficult economic times.
Thank you again for your gift. ”

Help Start a Classroom Library
Funded Oct 15, 2010Thank you for your generous contributions to my classroom library. The books that you funded have helped many of my students to complete their outside reading assignments. My school's library is lacking, and many of my students' families cannot afford to buy books for class. Because of this, many students are not exposed to high-quality literature to show them the joy of reading. Thanks to your donations, my students now have an excellent selection of reading material. Students have been excited to borrow books and even more excited to tell me about what they read.
As education budgets continue to be cut, I feel more and more grateful for your willingness to give to my classroom. I appreciate your help. Your gift has already benefited my students this year, and will continue to help students in the future.
Thank you again for your gracious gift!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Braun
Give Students the Gift of a Story
Funded Sep 29, 2010Thank you again for your generous donation to my students. The copies of the novel Lord of the Flies that you helped to provide have given my students an opportunity to practice a valuable new skill: annotating. Thanks to your contribution, each student in my freshman honors English class was given his/her own copy of the novel. My students are currently reading the novel; while reading, they are highlighting, underlining, bracketing, and noting examples of various literary elements in the novel. This is giving my students the opportunity to truly interact with the text as they read.
As most in-class reading comes from library class sets, students at my school rarely own the book they are reading for class. Your donations have provided a unique experience for the students in my class. Thank you again for your contributions, and I hope that you will continue to support literacy education projects in the future.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Braun
