My English and ELD (English Language Development - for newcomers to the US) classes need basic supplies--pens, pencils, paper, highlighters--in order to grow into the readers and writers they are capable of becoming. Having paper and writing utensils is a critical necessity, and it is inequitable to ask students to provide their own supplies when this means that some students inevitably will be left out. Providing school supplies means that all students have the opportunity to learn and succeed. Literacy--reading, writing, annotating--are essential skills that help prepare students for academic and life-long success. Help me give my students the materials the need and deserve.
