  • Apples Aren't Just For Teachers!

    Funded Feb 17, 2017

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The ipad that you donated is used by my students every single day. We use them to play educational games, do research on topics for our informational writing, and by using the speak-to-text feature for our students who are able to dictate ideas but not able to write them. I can't tell you how much of an impact this technology has had on our integrated classroom.

Our school is currently facing some hardships within our budget and without your help we never could have afforded this resource. Without donors like you, so many schools like ours would go without.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and for helping our students grow!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

  • Technology Needed to Support 21st Century Learners!

    Funded Feb 17, 2017

Thank you for donating to our project for a new TV for PS 64. Our school is using this tv to showcase all the exciting projects and activities that have been taking place at our school this year!

In years past, PS 64 was a school destined to close due to low enrollment, low parent involvement, and low scores. The last year or two has brought many changes to our school, and an increase in school activities and parent involvement. We are thrilled about the changes that have made our school such an amazing place to work and learn but were still looking for a way to display the amazing efforts of our students, teachers, and families. The TV that you so generously helped us acquire has done just that. When students, faculty, and families walk into our school, the first thing they see is our tv showcasing a constant slideshow featuring school trip photos, pictures of families taking part in school events, and students displaying their student of the month certificates. There are photos of children's artwork and students who go to swimming lessons each week.

We are so proud to share all of the amazing changes that have taken place in our school and this is the perfect way to show ourselves off to every single person who walks into our building. Thank you for your help in making PS 64 a place where children come first.”

    With gratitude,

  • Reading is Knowledge! Knowledge is Power!

    Funded Nov 29, 2016

Class 2-239 cannot thank you enough for the amazing books that have been donated to our classroom. These new books focus on a broad range of skills. Reading aloud from books like these help children learn how to make text-to-text and text-to-world connections that help them understand and enjoy reading more than ever. The non-fiction texts are especially beneficial to our children who struggle to understand informational writing without mentor texts available for them to actually see, hold, and read. We are so honored that you chose to donate to our classroom and give our students these beautiful texts to learn from as their love for reading continues to grow.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

  • Swimming Our Way Towards a Great School Year!

    Funded Nov 1, 2016

Since receiving our caps and goggles, our students have been so excited to attend swim class each week. We were so thrilled to be able to share with them the story of how some people out there, strangers that don't even know us, were kind enough to think of us during the giving season. They were so appreciative and thankful when we opened that box together the day it arrived. We cannot thank you enough for all that you have done to meet the needs of our students this year. We are thrilled to be able to share this exciting opportunity with our students.”

  • Classroom Printer Needed!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for your impact on our classroom. Our school has a very low budget and our students do not have much at home so we try our best every day to give them whatever we can in school. The classroom printer has helped bring more joy and fun to our classroom.

This technology allows us to keep up with best practices in teaching as we cannot afford to buy new teaching resource books to make copies from. Our students love using the computer, and now they ask if they can print certificates from websites they use, work they have typed up and are proud of, and pictures that inspire their creativity.

Without donors like you, schools all across New York City would go without. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

  • NYC Children Need Your Help!

    Funded Oct 23, 2015

Thank you all so much for your generous contributions to our classroom. Our students are loving the new resources we have access to and were so excited to get started on thank you notes to you all.

We have been using our easel and chart paper every day to decorate our classroom with math facts, social studies content, informational writing techniques and more. We use our wipe-off board every morning to set up our morning journals and get our students writing creatively. Our document camera has been a huge help in sharing student work and celebrating all of their successes. There is nothing better than seeing the joy on their faces when their work is displayed on the Smart Board for everyone to see!

We plan on continually using all of our new resources to enrich our learning environment for our amazing group of kids. Seeing their eyes light up when they walked in the day after our materials arrived and were set up was really an amazing feeling and it is all thanks to you! Thank you again for everything you have done to make our classroom rich with resources and make a few very special kids smile.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

Our students come from the projects of NYC. Many come from broken homes where they speak little English and don't have much to give. Most of our students' families were unable to purchase supplies this year and our school has very little resources to fund this gap. This is an ICT class and we have a lot of children with special needs. Every little bit counts and we are so very grateful for any donations we get. Our school is working so hard at its full potential to have a great year and it starts with the adults. Whatever we can do for our children is meaningful and something they will remember for years to come.
