  • Basic Needs for 4th Grade Mathematicians: Quadrille Notebooks and Pencils!

    Funded Jan 27, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to my project for the graph notebooks and pencils! In the time since we have received these notebooks and pencils, we have done tons of math work in them! Students are able to easily draw rectangles and composite figures to help find area and perimeter. They are now able to line up place values when multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting. These notebooks have improved students in my class' math confidence and enjoyment of math!

When these notebooks first came, students were beaming with excitement. I heard one student say "Now I can make my math work neater!" and another say "These will help me so much in math!" Students have a sense of pride when doing their math in these fancy new notebooks!

Other classes have taken notice of using graph notebooks for math and are planning on getting some for their classes. The school has even ordered special graph paper for them to use on their big end of year test because of the success of my students using these notebooks for math.

I am truly grateful that these students are able to use these notebooks because of your contribution!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Boisjolie

Through my years of teaching math, I have seen how graph lined paper has helped students clearly and effectively communicate mathematically and neatly solve math problems. So many times a student will make a small mistake and get an incorrect answer just because they have a number slightly misaligned. In fourth grade we do a lot of multi-digit multiplication and division where lining up place values is very important. We also work a lot with fractions and drawing models to represent those fractions. Using graph lined paper such as in in these quadrille spiral notebooks in combination with an ample supply of pencils will greatly help my students in their mathematical endeavors in 4th grade.
