Funded Sep 29, 2022This year students have had the opportunity to work on being independent and responsible. This is extremely important for the 5th graders in my classroom. With your generous donation of the "Seat Sacks" students were able to work all year long on being more organized, responsible for maintaining their belongings in one location. It also helped them to learn to independently care for their own school supplies and materials. This is an essential skill to have as they prepare to go to middle school where they will may possibly receive lockers to keep their belongings. As for my 4th graders, they will also be better prepared for their upcoming 5th grade year. They are well on their way to becoming independent and responsible members of the school community.
Students were very happy and humbled to receive the classroom supplies provided by your generous donations. It helps them understand the true meaning of kindness and community involvement.
Moving forward some next projects that we are looking to undertake involve an update to the electronics and technology in the classroom with microphone enabled headphones, charging stations for the laptops and iPads and iPad holders that can clip to the tables to give them a greater work surface while still accessing technology. Another project we are going to work on for the next academic year is flexible seating accommodations.
We sincerely appreciate your donations and want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Funded Sep 16, 2020The past 10 months have been the most difficult in my 17 years as a special education teacher. This pandemic has given me an opportunity to see another side of my students. As a fully remote teacher, I have the privilege of entering their homes daily through their laptops, iPads and cell phones. It is because I have a different viewpoint into my student's homes that I created this project for my students. Reliable technology and computer knowledge are both sorely lacking in their homes. As a result, I had to go back to my roots with teaching...chart paper and markers. The one constant thing that many students were able to see was me. Whenever I tried to have students enter other platforms, assignments or documents they had trouble or couldn't access it all. This was a very frustrating situation for us all. Being able to write on a dry erase board made teaching easier. The chart tablets allowed me to be able to display previously charted work without having to rely on the computer. I didn't have to worry about deleted or corrupted files. Students didn't have to switch screens or scroll through assignments. The materials you so graciously donated to our class has helped us out in unimaginable ways. I am very appreciative and thankful that you took the time out to read about my class and invest in their futures. As a class we have pledged to model your generosity by performing acts of kindness to others and pay it forward. May you and your families stay safe during this difficult time and be blessed.”

Funded Mar 4, 2020I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can’t wait to share the amazing news with my students tomorrow morning! Your generous donation will assist us in continuing our mission to reduce our carbon footprint, reduce, reuse and recycle ♻️. This project fulfillment came at the right time with NYC putting into effect the “no plastic bag” policy all around. Thanks again.”

Funded Dec 31, 2017Words cannot describe the sense of utter gratefulness I experienced on New Year's Eve 2017 when I received the email notification that my class project had been fully funded. I received the email at a quarter to midnight. I thought to myself "this is unreal!"
I have been teaching at P.S. 23 since September of 2004 and love working at my school. I love the community that I service. The local community is very financially disadvantaged. On a yearly basis I purchase more school supplies than what my students can afford. This is the reason why your generosity has helped us immensely. In addition to using the school supplies you've donated this year, it will also service the students I will have next year. As a result your donation has helped many of my students move up as much as three reading levels this past semester. This is an amazing feat.
My students have been impacted in such a positive way that they have been working on other ways to "pay it forward". As a class we have signed up for the UNICEF Kid Power program. For every 10,000 steps they walk, a food ration is donated to a child in a third world country. They've learned from your act of kindness, and were inspired to do the same for others.
Thank you again for taking the time to invest in our children's futures and education. Thank you for helping me show them that there are people in the world with pure kindness in their hearts. May your act of kindness and generosity be multiplied ten times over. Take care and be blessed.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Amy
