When I think about my day at school, I am constantly up and moving about, with very little time for sitting. Unfortunately for my students, they have to do a lot of sitting. Which, for a bunch of enthusiastic and energetic 6 year olds, can get difficult and boring very quickly! I am requesting some new seating options for my classroom to help channel some of our excess energy into successful learning! In a flexible classroom, students are able to choose the type of seating that helps them do their best. For one student, this might mean sitting on a balance ball at their desk instead of a chair so that they can be constantly in motion. For another it could be sitting at a lower table with a wobble disk to help them get that same movement with a little more stability. For even more students it might mean bean bag chairs, folding chairs, or even a simple fidget band on their chairs to help them stay focused and engaged! With flexible seating also comes the need for additional organizational tools such as book bins to keep their materials in and clipboards to use for writing in flexible places without desks.
