As students are learning how they can use their iPads as tools for their learning, teachers are learning how they can utilize the iPads in the classroom. The past school year has been filled with trial and error for making the iPads useful in the classroom. I have learned that the iPads can be very powerful tools... only if used correctly. As a teacher I have been stuck with a daunting question. How can I cultivate reading and writing literacy with an iPad? That is why I have decided that we will use the iPads for a digital scientific journal next school year. Each student will need a stylus to make this possible. In this way, they can draw out atomic models and perform stoichiometry just as they would in a paper journal and upload their notes on a digital platform. Additionally, students have been using their iPads most of the school day and needing to charge their iPads has become an annoying issue. In a collaborative workspace it is not ideal for students to be tied to a wall outlet or drag around an extension cord. That is why I would like to have a few portable chargers the students can check out. In this way students can harness the full educational power of the iPads in their chemistry classroom!
