  • Let's Go From Struggling to Success in Reading

    Funded Oct 20, 2021

What an incredible resource! We have seen our students reading these books and working in groups as they improve their ability to decode. The students use these books to read text on their level in order to build fluency and confidence in reading. Not only can we offer our students quality books, but we are promoting acceptance and celebrating diversity as students use these books to grow in their reading ability. We have already seen growth and look forward to more. Thank you so much for giving to our project! The ability to read is empowering and transforms the child. Your gift has opened the door to a lifelong love of reading for these kiddos.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Koch

  • Leveling the Playing Field for Struggling Readers

    Funded Oct 20, 2021

We greatly appreciate the generosity of your gift to us! The students are really benefitting from the books provided to them to read during Reading Interventions. Because of you we have books that promote acceptance, celebrate diversity, and most importantly are on the students reading level so they have access to the text. The students are building their reading abilities and their confidence because of the books you helped us purchase.

Students are using these books to read with the teacher and decode words. As they grow, we have books at higher levels because of this gift. Thank you so much of your generosity!”

    Mrs. Koch

  • Amplifying Acceptance With Literature

    Funded Apr 29, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations! The books that you helped us purchase are going to influence my students to appreciate and celebrate diversity. I plan to use these books to teach students about fiction and nonfiction texts, making inferences, and author's purpose. My students love being read to. Read alouds are a great way to encourage students to read and develop a love for reading. As our library was sorely in need of an update, these books will provide a fresh experience for my students to continue their progress in reading. We truly appreciate your donation and the books that will add color and pizazz to our classroom!”

  • Boosting Independent Learning Through Technology

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

I want to extend my gratitude to you for the generous donations that you made towards my project. With the funds raised, I was able to purchase Tablets and cases for the students to use. We have found so many creative ways to use these devices to further our learning and expand our classroom to the outdoors.

During recess time, students walk around the field attached to our playground and use these devices along with a plant identification app to key out plant types. Once they identify the plant, they do research on another app using the device. With this information, they can share the picture of the plant and the information they have found about the plant with their peers as they present their plant research papers. There is a bird app that they are currently learning how to use so that they can do the same thing.

In the classroom, students can use the tablets to access a website in which they are given the opportunity to use manipulatives to complete mathematics operations and gain a better understanding of math concepts.

Thank you so much for giving to our classroom! During this time of social distancing, students can use these devices and easily clean them giving them a similar learning experience to the pre-Covid classroom.”

  • Making Materials Accessible and Engaging for Students

    Funded May 6, 2020

While we are in a Covid-restricted learning environment, your resources are being put to use in a safe and enriching way in my classroom. The students are so motivated to learn and so interested in using these materials. They provide a much needed break from the predominately technological learning structure that we have been forced to take on.

The students and I want to thank you again for your generosity. Without your help and support in getting our classroom supplied with learning tools and enriching materials, we would not be able to go deeper in to the content of our curriculum and provide extra intervention to students who might not learn best with paper and pencil lessons.

It is my hope that the students in my classroom are given the tools, materials, and learning environment to catch up from time lost last year due to school closing. So far, I am very encouraged and excited as I see them understanding concepts. Using the materials purchased through this grant has provided my students with the opportunity to make great leaps in their education already!”

  • Expand Learning Through Models and Materials

    Funded Dec 11, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. The materials that you purchased have spark creativity, created opportunities for conversations, and provided an outlet for deeper understandings. The students absolutely loved putting together the 3D animals while learning about the internal parts. In the past, this was a concept taught in later years of schooling. One of the favorite activities that was added to our classroom thanks to you was the cash register buying and selling game. Students were able to practice counting money and change as they bought and sold "products." Please continue to support Donors Choose as you consider the giving of generous gifts! In this, you impact the lives of our future!”

  • Putting Materials in Students' Hands and Extending Learning Through Literature!

    Funded May 15, 2018

In our classroom, literature is used many ways. From introducing a lesson to researching a biome, my students not only have access to books but are assigned books to read and respond to. Some of the ways we have used the books that you helped us purchase include through research projects, reading response, and developing a love for reading. Sasha Salmina said, "A child who reds will be an adult who thinks." In our class we use the books you purchased in guided reading as well. This is small group instruction in which students d text on their level and get mini lessons based on their needs for instruction. The materials that you helped us acquire will also give students hands on learning tools to identify with science concepts being presented in class such as life cycles, layers of the earth, and the solar system. With each of these concepts we have literature so that students can complete research tasks and gain more information about these topics. Thank you for the contribution you made so that we can have materials and literature that connects student learning in a meaningful way. Your contribution has made our learning environment richer and more diverse for high order thinking and tasks.”

  • Enriching And Engaging Materials for Montessori Public School

    Funded Apr 3, 2018

The day that our materials came in felt like Christmas for my students and me. We were so excited and couldn't wait to get our hands on them. I began giving lessons and putting the materials on shelves immediately. The students really love learning about the landmarks and symbols of our country along with the map of the United States. They are creating their own maps and placing landmarks in the correct locations. The insect life cycle of the stag bettle has added to our insect project by giving students hands on models to explore as they research and learn about various insects. They are completing their very own research booklet with drawings of insect life cycles. The hundered chart is being used to help students become more familiar with adding and subtracting by 10 and 1 without using their fingers to count. The students are also enjoying learning about measurement with heavier and lighter objects by using and drawing diagrams of the balancing scale to compare objects according to weight. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for you generous donations! These materials have brought a new excitement for learning at the end of the school year. Many of the students will be returning to this classrom next year and will continue to use these materials since we are a Montessori public school.”

The materials that I am requesting will be used by my students regularly. In Montessori, students choose materials to explore once they have been given a lesson. While we have materials already, these materials will provided a richer environment for students to explore in greater depth and with greater motivation because of the engagin nature of the materials. These materials will be used to build upon what students are learning and foster deeper thinking and understanding. Instead of just listening to what the life cycle of a frog is, students can see models, create diagrams, and manipulate materials to better understand the concepts of a life cycle. Other materials requested will provide the similarly rich and deep educational experience for students to build a deeper understanding of concepts. These materials include Continent Critters (animals to match with the different continents and biomes of the world), USA SuperToob (identify symbols of the USA and learn facts), Safari Around the World figurines (Symbols from around the world figurines), Breaking Open 10 Geodes (to study the rock cycle and types of rocks), Life Cycle of a Monarch Butterfly (study life cycles of insects), Hundreds board (students create a hundreds board using Montessori materials), Balance scale (measuring and comparing weight/mass), and Wooden number tiles (used to give construct numbers for solving operations problems). By providing quality materials that promote deeper understanding of concepts, students are shown that their education is of utmost value and they are more inclined to be self motivated, lifelong learners! Montessori gives the child the skills needed to explore and trains the child to think deeper independtly by providing material such such as the ones requested.
