STEM Bins for Firsties
Funded Dec 25, 2018After we returned from Holiday break, I told my students that we would be getting STEM bin materials. They were very excited and continued to ask me each day if the package containing the items had arrived yet. On the day it finally arrived, my students couldn't wait for me to open everything up and get to experimenting and building.
The students use the magnetic marbles to go around the room and find different things that the marbles will stick to magnetically. This is one of their favorite activities. The beginning robot kit is a great way for them to see how basic gears can come together to make something move. They are often excited to share their new moving robot creations. I have also included picture cards of different structures with the materials and the students are tasked with creating those objects with their STEM bin items.
My hope for each child in this class, is that they will gain a love for STEM and look for opportunities to expand that knowledge and enthusiasm as they get older.”

Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for your contribution to our class and the gift of technology that has been brought to my students. My students are using the Chrome Books through small group learning stations. Some of the websites they use for mathematics and reading keep them engaged in a variety of ways while hitting key subject areas we teach in school. The Chrome Books also help kids who may not learn in a typical setting by reaching out to different learning styles.
One of the biggest things I have noticed is that my students did not have any basic computer use skills. We have taken time to practice using a keyboard, how to navigate a webpage and searching for different websites. These may seem like simple skills, but many of my students have never used a computer before and do not have one in their home. This will better prepare them to be participants in 21st century skills.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hamlett
