We are in a very small room with very fidgety kids. I'm hoping to introduce flexible seating to allow students to make their own choices and to allow them a chance to move and wiggle when necessary.
Allowing students to choose their own seating allows them to take ownership of their learning. Students are encouraged to sit somewhere they will learn best. This could be on the floor with a lap desk or clipboard. On the floor they can use cushions, wiggle cushions (balance disk) or lean back on a reading pillow. It could be at a desk with or without a wiggle cushion. It could even be at the kidney table or standing at a raised desk. They could also sit on the storage benches that double as seating and storage. On the floor crates make a great writing surface when turned upside down or if you add a cushion can be used for seating.
I'm hoping to get bouncy bands for fidgety feet. If a student still feels more comfortable at a desk they can use these to get wiggles out. Stools are a great option because they can be moved around easily and used where the student feels most comfortable. When you remove desks you also take out spaces to hold the students' school supplies, so I am also hoping to get items that will allow students to easily store their items around the room making them easy to access but out of the way and less of a distraction.
