My 2nd grade class at sch #73 is a heterogeneous mix of active learners. We love read-alouds and gets really excited each time we access our leveled books online (www.raz-kids.com), perform Math exercises (www.firstinmath.com) or do Soc-Sci researches for our writing with the help of student-friendly websites. (Definitely, we have utilized a lot of other educational websites.) Being able to read, interact, listen to and record their own fluency piece or listen to Math directions or assignments online facilitates self-paced learning among students. I and my senior volunteer monitor our student's progress, make the e-report charts or online grade book visible to them, give them incentives and conference with them in order to make progress. This makes them more accountable and more determined to do more. It is our goal to become fluent readers, effective listeners and more capable in Math with the availability of functional headsets with built-in microphones that will go with our laptops.
